First of the month . . .

I'm vowing not to get lazy this time around . . . hopefully starting tomorrow, I'll be able to keep this blog updated on a regular basis. TV news mixed with my opinions - hopefully my readers will come back!

While I'm at it, who else is looking forward to this TV season? Should be a good one - lots of new shows to watch, many of which look good. I'll be making a post about my opinions on each network and which shows like the best, while others . . . well, don't. Stay tune!

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Wow, I can't believe it's been this long since I last posted . . .

Sorry guys! I had the intention of starting this blog because I wasn't very busy at the time. Unfortunately, quite a lot of stuff came up, and this was one of those things that had to be put off to the side.

But, if I do have any readers left out there, I would love to pick up where I left off come September. I want to change a few things around and make it a lot more interactive for my readers. If anyone is left out there reading this post, I beg you, PLEASE leave a comment so I'll know I'm at least writing for someone!

Once again, sorry to those who thought I "abandoned" you. I feel bad for not keeping up with the work. But, a blog is always something I wanted, so the sooner I can get back to writing the better!

NBC Expands "Celebrity" For 2 Additional Nights

NBC has expanded moderate performer "I'm a Celebrity . . . Get me out of Here!" for 2 additional nights. The show, which has been airing constantly for the past 2 weeks, was slated to end next Thursday, June 18. The show will now end on Wednesday, June 24, as of now, airing the following Monday and Wednesday for 2 additional hours.

A winner will be declared, even though 8 cast members remain. I'm not sure how NBC is going to pull this one off, but we might see half the cast eliminated by the end of next week if I were to guess. The show has been performing moderately for summer, averaging around 5 million viewers for its first 7 episodes.

"Earl" is Definitely Finished

Although there was some talk of 20th Century FOX striking a deal with TBS to keep the show on the air, it just isn't going to happen. FOX issued ann announcement to the public today that the deal fell through, stating that "they could not make the economics work." Unfortunately, the 4th season of the show was the last.

PIF 2009 Summer Project - Check it Out!

Do you have a pilot up your sleeves that you've been secretly writing? Are you interested in letting the public know your TV ideas? The PIFeedback forums have started the summer project known as "PIF 2009."

It's a simple concept - we are starting a fantasty television network known as PIF, which will be competing with the other 5 networks in the fall. Right now, we're accepting everyone's TV concepts, pilots, and ideas! All you have to do is go to PIFeedback (at the link provided at the bottom), register for free, and post your TV pilot idea. We currently have many, many concepts to pick through. At the same time, you can discuss which ones you think are the best and deserve a spot on the lineup.

Entries will be accepted throughout summer. In July, a few of us will begin picking up pilots and putting together a Fall 2009 schedule that will launch in September (keep in mind, though, that not all pilots will be picked up). As it launches, forum members will be able to vote for which show/network they'd be watching in each hour of each night (for example, if it was Monday night, you'd be able to vote for the network you'd be watching at 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm, according to the show). We'll be calculating ratings, as well as making cancellations, extra renewals, and all the decisions that the actual networks make.

This sounds like a lot of fun, and we so far have many, many great ideas! Just go on over, post your TV concept, look at some of the others, and have fun! If you have any questions you can post a comment below!

Old Christine, Curb, and Entourage Cleared for Fall 2010 Syndication

Warner Bros. has just cleared sitcom "The New Adventures of Old Christine" for a fall 2010 syndication launch. It has been cleared in 70% of the country, sold to Tribune-owned stations WPIX in New York and KTLA in Los Angeles. 2 episodes will air on stations daily, while 2 episodes will air on weekends.

And as previously announced, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage have also been edited for an off-network syndicated run beginning Fall 2010. Entourage will also be airing on Spike, Comedy Central, and WGN America at the time. There's also the possibility that Old Christine will be finding a cable home - parhaps a network like TBS or Nick at Nite?

Ratings Report - Week of Monday, June 1

As summer continues, reality programming and repeats rule, with a few scripted series mixed in. This week saw the launch of many new series, including NBC hidden pleasure I'm a Celebrity . . . Get me Out of Here!, as well as a few season finales.

Monday, June 1
ABC:
8:00PM THE BACHELORETTE - 6.41 million, 4.5/7 HH, 2.2/6, 2.4/6
10:02PM HERE COME THE NEWLYWEDS - 4.95 million, 3.5/6 HH, 2.0/6, 2.2/6

CBS:
8:00PM THE BIG BANG THEORY -REPEAT - 6.77 million, 4.1/7 HH, 2.3/8, 2.9/9
8:30PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER -REPEAT - 6.18 million, 3.8/6 HH, 2.4/7, 2.9/8
9:00PM TWO AND A HALF MEN -REPEAT - 10.1 million, 6.3/10 HH, 3.1/9, 3.8/10
9:31PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT -REPEAT - 8.31 million, 5.2/8 HH, 2.8/7, 3.5/8
10:00PM CSI: MIAMI -REPEAT - 8.52 million, 5.7/10 HH, 2.2/6, 2.8/7

NBC:
8:00PM I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE MONDAY - 6.45 million, 4.0/7 HH, 2.6/8, 2.9/8
10:00PM MEDIUM - 7.41 million, 4.9/8 HH, 2.3/6, 3.0/8

FOX:
8:00PM HOUSE -REPEAT - 5.98 million, 3.8/7 HH, 1.8/6, 2.1/6
9:00PM BONES MON-REPEAT - 6.02 million, 4.0/6 HH, 1.6/4, 2.0/5

The CW:
8:00PM GOSSIP GIRL -REPEAT - 0.92 million, 0.7/1 HH, 0.3/1, 0.3/1
9:00PM ONE TREE HILL -REPEAT - 0.71 million, 0.5/1 HH, 0.3/1, 0.2/1

My thoughts: NBC saw night 1 of I'm a Celebrity, which did average numbers, and the highest numbers of the week. So far, I'm a Celebrity should definitely be doing better than this. Unfortunately, this will probably be the season high. Medium aired its NBC finale (and season finale) at 10pm, building from its lead-in and building hugely throughout the 15 minute intervals. ABC was original with The Bachelorette, which should be doing better, and Here Come the Newlyweds, which is a compatible lead-in and I guess good enough for summer. CBS aired repeats, seeing the highest numbers of the night with a Two and a Half Men repeat doing an amazing 10.1 million. For a comedy repeat to do that high in the summer nowadays is incredible. Rules of Engagement benefited from the higher lead-in with an above-average summer rating. FOX was on the map with House and Bones repeats - perhaps Bones should be airing Mondays at 9pm next season? And The CW was off the map with repeats of 2 shows that don't even do well to begin with.

Tuesday, June 2
ABC:
8:00PM ACCORDING TO JIM - 3.98 million, 2.6/5 HH, 1.2/4, 1.5/5
8:30PM ACCORDING TO JIM - 3.96 million, 2.5/4 HH, 1.2/4, 1.6/5
9:00PM ABC NEWS SPECIAL: EARTH 2100 - 3.77 million, 2.5/4 HH, 0.6/2, 1.5/4

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS -REPEAT - 11.26 million, 7.4/13 HH, 2.1/7, 3.1/9
9:00PM THE MENTALIST -REPEAT - 10.88 million, 7.0/11 HH, 2.3/7, 3.3/8
10:01PM 48 HOURS MYSTERY TUES - 7.73 million, 5.2/9 HH, 2.0/5, 2.6/6

NBC:
8:00PM I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE TUES - 5.54 million, 3.7/7 HH, 2.2/7, 2.5/7
9:00PM NBC NEWS SPECIAL: INSIDE THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE PART I - 9.17 million, 6.0/10 HH, 2.6/7, 3.2/8
10:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU - 11.56 million, 7.7/13 HH, 3.5/10, 4.3/11

FOX:
8:00PM HOUSE TUES-REPEAT - 4.08 million, 2.6/5 HH, 1.4/4, 1.5/4
9:00PM MENTAL - 4.89 million, 3.2/5 HH, 1.6/4, 1.8/5

The CW:
8:00PM HITCHED OR DITCHED-REPEAT - 1.27 million, 0.8/1 HH, 0.5/2, 0.5/2
9:00PM HITCHED OR DITCHED - 1.4 million, 1.0/2 HH, 0.6/2, 0.7/2

My thoughts: NBC saw the SVU finale doing the highest of the night, nearly 6 million viewers more than its previous original airing. Clearly without competition, SVU is still a winner. Earlier in the night was I'm a Celebrity falling and the Obama News Special also on the map. ABC had the series finale of According to Jim doing terribly as always. It's too bad ABC couldn't have promoted this 8-season veteran a little more. Earth 2100 did even worse, though. FOX had episode 2 of Mental doing below 5 million - not good at all. And, the CBS repeats were down from last week, but still strong, while an original installment of 48 Hours did worse than a Without a Trace repeat. Maybe this show should stick to Saturdays?

Wednesday, June 3
ABC:
8:00PM WIPEOUT - 8.44 million, 4.7/8 HH, 3.0/10, 3.2/10
9:01PM THE GOODE FAMILY - 2.44 million, 1.5/2 HH, 1.0/3, 1.1/3
10:01PM THE UNUSUALS - 2.93 million, 2.0/4 HH, 0.9/3, 1.1/3

CBS:
8:00PM OLD CHRISTINE -REPEAT - 4.49 million, 3.0/6 HH, 1.2/4, 1.7/5
8:30PM GARY UNMARRIED -REPEAT - 4.41 million, 2.9/5 HH, 1.2/4, 1.7/5
9:00PM CRIMINAL MINDS -REPEAT - 8.64 million, 5.6/9 HH, 2.0/6, 2.8/7
10:00PM CSI: NY -REPEAT - 7.75 million, 5.1/9 HH, 2.0/6, 2.5/7

NBC:
8:00PM I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE WED - 4.8 million, 1.8/6, 3.2/6 HH, 2.0/6
9:00PM NBC NEWS SPECIAL: INSIDE THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE, PART II - 9.04 million, 6.0/10 HH, 2.3/7, 2.9/7
10:00PM LAW & ORDER - 8.87 million, 6.0/11 HH, 2.3/7, 3.1/8

FOX:
8:00PM SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE WED - 8.85 million, 5.4/9 HH, 3.4/10, 3.5/10

The CW:
8:00PM AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL -REPEAT - 1.03 million, 0.7/1 HH, 0.4/1, 0.4/1
9:00PM HITCHED OR DITCHED WED-REPEAT 0.98 million, 0.7/1 HH, 0.4/1, 0.4/1

My thoughts: All the nets (well, not The CW) had something to boast about on this night. ABC started off strong with Wipeout, right on par with last week. Unfortunately, the ratings took a nosedive with The Goode Family (now on Fridays) and The Unusuals, which has only 1 episode left to air. I'm sure ABC is thrilled about that. NBC had Part 2 of the Obama special doing a night best, followed by the season finale of Law & Order doing respectable ratings. I wonder if it'll be able to do that on Fridays in September. CBS had okay numbers for repeats, and FOX did good with So You Think You Can Dance.

Thursday, June 4
ABC:

8:00PM JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE: GAME NIGHT #1 - 3.55 million, 2.3/4 HH, 1.2/4, 1.3/4
8:31PM GMC NBA COUNTDOWN - 5.15 million, 3.3/6 HH, 1.9/7, 2.0/6
9:00PM NBA FINALS ON ABC: GAME #1 ORLANDO AT LA LAKERS THRU 11:43PM ET - 13.04 million, 7.8/14 HH, 5.4/16, 5.4/15

CBS:
8:00 BIG BANG THEORY -REPEAT - 5.82 million, 1.6/6
8:30 OLD CHRISTINE -REPEAT - 5.22 million, 1.4/4
9:00 CSI -REPEAT - 7.67 million, 1.5/4
10:00 THE MENTALIST - 8.55 million, 1.9/5

NBC:
8:00 I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE THUR - 5.17 million, 1.9/6
9:00 THE LISTENER - 5.25 million, 1.5/4
10:00 THE LISTENER - 5.34 million, 1.4/4

FOX:
8:00 BONES -REPEAT - 6.14 million, 1.6/5
9:00 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE - 8.2 million, 3.1/9

The CW:
8:00 SMALLVILLE -REPEAT - 1.38 million, 0.4/1
9:00 SUPERNATURAL -REPEAT - 1.23 million, 0.5/1

My thoughts: ABC led the way with game 1 of the NBA finals doing good numbers, right on par with 2 years ago (although down substantially from last year). FOX was on the map with Dance, although it did a season low. That just goes to show that with increased competition, Dance with buckle. This doesn't fare well for the fall. CBS started off with comedy repeats, both Big Bang Theory and Old Christine right on par with each other. These 2 comedies remain my favorite currently on television, so it was nice to see them paired up with each other. CSI followed with below normal repeats numbers, while The Mentalist improved at 10pm in its new slot. NBC saw slightly improved numbers with Celebrity, while The Mentalist premiered to also okay numbers, but nothing spectacular.

Friday, June 5
ABC:
8:00 WIFE SWAP -REPEAT - 3.08 million, 1.0/4
9:00 SAMANTHA WHO? -REPEATS - 2.32 million, 0.7/3
10:00 20/20 - 4.83 million, 1.3/5

CBS:
8:00 GHOST WHISPERER -REPEAT - 5.42 million, 1.1/5
9:00 FLASHPOINT -REPEAT - 5.53 million, 1.0/4
10:00 NUMB3RS -REPEAT - 5.78 million, 1.2/4

NBC:
8:00 NBC NEWS SPECIAL: INSIDE THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE -REPEAT - 5.59 million, 1.4/5
9:00 DATELINE - 6.13 million, 1.6/6

FOX:
8:00 DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! - 3.55 million, 1.1/5
9:00 MENTAL -REPEAT - 2.77 million, 0.9/3

The CW:
8:00 PRIVILEDGED -REPEAT - 1.07 million, 0.4/2
9:00 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS -REPEAT - 0.88 million, 0.4/1
9:30 THE GAME -REPEAT - 1.1 million, 0.5/2

My thoughts: Wow, when the highest rated show can barely get over 6 million viewers, you know its a summer Friday! NBC led the way with Dateline at 9pm, while FOX had the only other original with Lyrics doing slightly improved numbers. I wish FOX would promote Lyrics more, because it really is a great show, which should be doing better. Why ABC is airing repeats of the cancelled Samantha Who? I don't know. Same goes for The CW - why are they all of a sudden airing Priviledged when it was cancelled?

Saturday, June 6
ABC:
8:00 WIPEOUT -REPEAT - 3.73 million, 1.2/5
9:00 HERE COME THE NEWLYWEDS -REPEAT - 2.27 million, 0.8/3
10:00 PUSHING DAISIES - 2.29 million, 0.8/3

CBS:
8:00 OLD CHRISTINE -REPEAT - 2.21 million, 0.5/2
8:30 WORST WEEK - 1.91 million, 0.5/2
9:00 HARPER'S ISLAND - 3.61 million, 0.9/3
10:00 48 HOURS -REPEAT - 6.78 million,1.4/5

NBC:
8:00 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 3.45 million, 1.2/5
8:30 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 4.33 million, 1.7/7
9:00 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 4.52 million, 1.8/7
9:30 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 4.56 million, 1.7/6
10:00 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 4.47 million, 1.7/6
10:30 STANLEY CUP FINALS, GAME 5 - 4.36 million, 1.6/5

FOX:
8:00 COPS - 3.38 million, 1.0/4
9:00 AMERICA'S MOST WANTED - 4.76 million, 1.4/5

My thoughts: We actually had a few originals this Saturday, all of which performed abysmally. CBS started with a repeat of Old Christine doing an OKAY number, with absolutely no promotion, of course. Worst Week, airing its final unaired episode, did terribly, though. It might have broken a record for the lowest rated original airing ever on CBS. Harper's Island followed, and was right on par with the last 2 weeks. On NBC, The Stanley Cup Finals won the night, but because the game was a blowout (go Wings!), ratings were about as high as could be expected. On ABC, a Pushing Daisies burn-off aired at 10pm and did nothing special. Meanwhile, Cops is becoming worrisome. It should be doing better than that.

Sunday, June 7
ABC:
7:00 JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE - 6.98 million, 2.6/10
7:30 NBA COUNTDOWN - 7.99 million, 3.2/11
8:00 NBA FINALS, GAME 2 - 10.2 million, 4.2/14
8:30 NBA FINALS, GAME 2 - 9.85 million, 4.2/13
9:00 NBA FINALS, GAME 2 - 9.88 million, 4.1/11
9:30 NBA FINALS, GAME 2 - 11.61 million, 4.8/13
10:00 NBA FINALS, GAME 2 - 12.07 million, 5.0/14
10:30 NBA FINALS<>

CBS:
7:00 60 MINUTES - 8.68 million, 1.2/5
8:00 THE 63RD ANNUAL TONY AWARDS - 7.3 million, 1.3/3

NBC:
7:00 DATELINE - 5.45 million, 1.1/4
9:00 THE LAST TEMPLAR -REPEAT - 4.17 million, 0.9/3

FOX (all are repeats):
7:00 KING OF THE HILL - 1.77 million, 0.8/3
7:30 AMERICAN DAD - 2.34 million, 1.1/3
8:00 THE SIMPSONS - 4.09 million, 1.9/6
8:30 KING OF THE HILL - 3.75 million, 1.8/5
9:00 FAMILY GUY - 4.96 million, 2.4/7
9:30 AMERICAN DAD - 4.27 million, 2.0/5

The CW:
7:00 JERICHO -REPEAT - 0.57 million, 0.2/1
8:00 KISS THE BRIDE -REPEAT - 1.05 million, 0.3/1

My thoughts: The NBA finals did excellent for ABC, very strong in the demos whole building in every half hour. The Tony Awards were the highest rated since 2006, so it was also a good night for CBS. The other nets - all had burnoff. Dateline did reasonably well also.

ABC Starts "Game Show" Early, Banishes Comedies to Fridays

After the very low ratings of The Goode Family this Wednesday, ABC has pulled the show from the slot immediately. In it's place will be a second all new episode of Wipeout, at 9pm. The week after that, though, will be the season premiere of I Survived a Japanese Gameshow. The show will launch 3 weeks early, airing Wednesdays at 9pm for 10 weeks. Gameshow did decently last season, but lost nearly half its audience by the end of its season.

Surviving Surburbia and The Goode Family, meanwhile, will begin airing Fridays at 8pm beginning next week. Following that will be 2 repeats of Samantha Who at 9pm for 2 weeks, with According to Jim repeats taking over after that. 20/20 will continue at 10pm, of course. Suburbia and Goode will continue to be new until episodes run out. Both shows are considered cancelled.

Also on ABC, Saturdays at 9pm will be repeats of Castle beginning June 20. Wipeout repeats will continue airing at 8pm until further notice. And, don't forget that at 10pm will be all new episodes of Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, and Dirty Sexy Money throughout the summer.

ABC Renews "Just for Laughs" for a 3rd Season

ABC will be giving the previously cancelled "Just for Laughs" for a third season. The ABC hidden camera comedy will air Sundays at 7pm beginning June 21 for a round of new episodes.

ABC previously cancelled the series last season, after it was airing to dismal ratings in April of 2008. The number of episodes has not been stated, and it will air leading into half-hour AFV episodes at 7:30.

Ratings Report - Week of Monday, May 25

Summer's in full throttle, but the ratings report will continue! It's a little late (sorry!), but don't fear - here it is!

Monday, May 25
ABC:
8:00PM THE BACHELORETTE - 5.99 million, 4.0/7 HH, 2.1/6, 2.4/6

10:02PM HERE COME THE NEWLYWEDS - 4.89 million, 3.3/6 HH, 1.9/5, 2.1/5

CBS:
8:00PM THE BIG BANG THEORY -REPEAT - 5.94 million, 3.6/6 HH, 2.0/6, 2.4/7
8:30PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER -REPEAT - 5.28 million, 3.2/5 HH, 1.9/5, 2.3/6
9:00PM TWO AND A HALF MEN -REPEAT - 9.27 million, 5.7/9 HH, 2.7/7, 3.5/8

9:30PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT -REPEAT - 7.25 million, 4.6/7 HH, 2.3/6, 3.0/7
10:00PM CSI: MIAMI -REPEAT - 7.76 million, 5.1/9 HH, 1.9/5, 2.5/6

NBC:
8:00PM DATELINE MONDAY - 7.17 million, 4.6/8 HH, 1.6/5, 2.2/5
10:00PM MEDIUM - 7.86 million, 5.1/9 HH, 2.1/6, 2.8/7

FOX:
8:00PM HOUSE -REPEAT - 4.8 million, 3.1/5 HH, 1.6/5, 1.9/5
9:00PM BONES MON-REPEAT - 5.49 million, 3.5/6 HH, 1.6/4, 2.1/5

The CW:
8:00PM ONE TREE HILL -REPEAT - 0.97 million, 0.7/1 HH, 0.3/1, 0.3/1
9:00PM ONE TREE HILL -REPEAT - 0.8 million, 0.6/1 HH, 0.3/1, 0.3/1

My thoughts: It's funny how NBC always does best in the summer, when the ratings really don't count. Dateline and Medium both did very well, Medium having one of its best peformances in awhile. The season finale was this past Monday, before it moves to CBS next fall on Fridays. The Bachelorette/Here Come the Newlyweds did okay, but ABC is definitely not a strong performer in the summer. CBS repeats all did okay as well, as they always rely heavily on their strong repeaters in the summer months. Bones on its special repeat night also did good. Maybe FOX should have went with a House/Bones combination on Mondays in the fall? The real success story of the night, though, went to Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC, which did a series and night best 9.8 million viewers.

Tuesday, May 26
ABC:
8:00PM ACCORDING TO JIM - 3.49 million, 2.4/4 HH, 1.1/4, 1.4/4
8:30PM ACCORDING TO JIM - 3.46 million, 2.5/4 HH, 1.1/3, 1.5/4
9:00PM ABC PREMIERE EVENT: DIAMONDS PART II - 3.14 million, 2.2/4 HH, 0.6/2, 0.9/2

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS -REPEAT - 12.46 million, 8.1/13 HH, 2.3/7, 3.4/9
9:00PM THE MENTALIST -REPEAT - 12.36 million, 8.0/13 HH, 2.4/6, 3.5/8
10:01PM WITHOUT A TRACE -REPEAT - 9.57 million, 6.4/11 HH, 2.2/6, 3.0/7

NBC:
8:00PM TV'S 50 FUNNIEST PHRASES - 6.71 million, 4.4/7 HH, 2.1/6, 2.6/7
10:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU -REPEAT - 6.46 million, 4.4/7 HH, 2.1/6, 2.6/6

FOX:
8:00PM HOUSE TUES-REPEAT - 4.25 million, 2.7/5 HH, 1.7/5, 1.8/5
9:00PM MENTAL - 5.76 million, 3.6/6 HH, 2.1/5, 2.3/6

The CW:
8:00PM REAPER - 2.14 million, 1.3/2 HH, 0.8/2, 0.9/2
9:00PM HITCHED OR DITCHED - 1.43 million, 1.0/2 HH, 0.7/2, 0.6/1

My thoughts: Mental premiered for FOX and did a solid 5.76 million - not bad, and if it can hold above 5 million viewers for the summer, it should be fine. Reaper aired its season finale and did one of its best outings in awhile. Maybe The CW should have kept it around as a summer series? Hitched or Ditched also premiered with a terrible 1.5 million. According to Jim did normal numbers, despite less competition, and Diamonds completely bombed. For once, According to Jim is the highest rated show on ABC! CBS repeats also did very well, as usual. CBS is lucky to have shows that perform well in originals and repeats, as the other nets definitely don't have that. NBC aired Funniest Catchphrases at respectable numbers, while they held off the season finale of SVU to air as a leadin to Conan the next week.

Wednesday, May 27
ABC:
8:00PM WIPEOUT - 8.71 million, 4.9/8 HH, 3.3/10, 3.7/10
9:01PM THE GOODE FAMILY - 3.65 million, 2.3/4 HH, 1.6/4, 1.8/4
9:31PM SURVIVING SUBURBIA - 2.76 million, 1.9/3 HH, 1.0/3, 1.2/3
10:01PM THE UNUSUALS - 3.88 million, 2.5/4 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/4

CBS:
8:00PM GEORGE STRAIT: ACM ARTIST OF THE DECADE - 10.63 million, 6.8/11 HH, 2.2/6, 3.1/8
10:00PM CRIMINAL MINDS -REPEAT - 8.93 million, 5.8/10 HH, 2.0/6, 2.8/7

NBC:
8:00PM LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT NBC - 5.14 million, 3.6/6 HH, 1.1/3, 1.6/4
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU WED-REPEAT - 6.76 million, 4.7/7 HH, 1.7/5, 2.2/5
10:00PM LAW & ORDER -REPEAT - 6.41 million, 4.4/8 HH, 1.8/5, 2.3/6

FOX:
8:00PM SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE WED - 8.71 million, 5.3/9 HH, 3.5/10, 3.7/10

The CW:
8:00PM AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL -REPEAT - 1.16 million, 0.8/1 HH, 0.5/2, 0.5/2
9:00PM HITCHED OR DITCHED WED-REPEAT - 1.11 million, 0.8/1 HH, 0.5/1, 0.5/1

My thoughts: ABC premiered its new Wednesday lineup, with Wipeout doing good numbers. This is definitely a great summer show to have around. Expect those numbers to go up over the summer. But, the story wasn't the same for The Goode Family, which disappointed, not as much as Surviving Suburbia, though. What happened to this show? Did viewers just forget about it or what? It's currently off the lineup now until the beginning of July, where it'll move to Fridays for its final episodes. The Unusuals followed with also bad numbers, but still managed to grow on Suburbia by a million. So You Think You Can Dance continued to do good numbers - can it hold onto those viewers in the fall? CBS' George Strait special did very well. CBS is still the #1 network even in the summer.

Thursday, May 28
ABC:
8:00PM 82ND ANNUAL SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE - 6.05 million, 3.8/7 HH, 1.7/5, 1.9/5
10:18PM GREY'S ANATOMY -REPEAT THRU 11:18PM ET - 3.66 million, 2.5/5 HH, 1.0/3, 1.2/3

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS THURS-REPEAT - 9.64 million, 6.3/11 HH, 2.0/6, 2.7/8
9:00PM CSI - 9.98 million, 6.7/11 HH, 2.1/6, 3.0/8
10:01PM WITHOUT A TRACE THURS-REPEAT - 9.71 million, 6.6/12 HH, 2.0/6, 2.9/8

NBC:
8:00PM MY NAME IS EARL -REPEAT - 3.37 million, 2.3/4 HH, 1.2/4, 1.4/5
8:30PM 30 ROCK -REPEAT - 3.06 million, 2.1/4 HH, 1.1/4, 1.4/4
9:00PM THE OFFICE -REPEAT - 3.26 million, 2.2/4 HH, 1.4/4, 1.6/4
9:31PM 30 ROCK -REPEAT - 3.11 million, 2.1/3 HH, 1.4/4, 1.6/4
10:01PM THE OFFICE -REPEAT - 3.59 million, 2.4/4 HH, 1.6/5, 1.8/5

FOX:
8:00PM SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE THURS - 9.15 million, 5.5/9 HH, 3.6/11, 3.7/10

The CW:
8:00PM SMALLVILLE -REPEAT - 1.35 million, 0.9/2 HH, 0.5/2, 0.5/2
9:00PM SUPERNATURAL -REPEAT - 1.41 million, 0.9/2 HH, 0.5/1, 0.5/1

My thoughts: FOX ruled the night with Dance doing a season high, over 9 million for the first time. It's also noteworthy that it peaked over 10 million viewers at 9pm. The Spelling Bee on ABC also did a respectable performance, growing hugely over the halfhours, having its best ratings after 10pm. NBC aired a night of repeats (to be replaced with I'm a Celebrity this week) and so did CBS. Without a Trace really should have been renewed. Why CBS moved it out of this Thursdays at 10pm slot is beyond me, because this is clearly where it does best.

Friday, May 29
ABC:
8:00PM WIFE SWAP -REPEAT - 3.22 million, 2.2/4 HH, 1.0/4, 1.1/4
9:00PM UNBROKE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MONEY - 3.32 million, 2.2/4 HH, 1.0/4, 1.3/4
10:00PM 20/20 - 4.7 million, 3.2/6 HH, 1.3/4, 1.7/5

CBS:
8:00PM CBS FRIDAY MOVIE: WALK THE LINE - 6.45 million, 4.1/8 HH, 1.5/5, 1.6/6

NBC:
8:00PM HOWDIE DO IT -REPEAT - 2.4 million, 1.6/3 HH, 0.7/3, 0.9/3
8:30PM HOWDIE DO IT -REPEAT - 2.21 million, 1.5/3 HH, 0.6/2, 0.8/3
9:00PM DATELINE FRIDAY - 5.84 million, 4.0/7 HH, 1.5/5, 2.0/6

FOX:
8:00PM DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS - 3.42 million, 2.1/4 HH, 1.2/5, 1.3/5
9:00PM MENTAL FRI-REPEAT - 2.62 million, 1.7/3 HH, 0.8/3, 0.9/3

The CW:
8:00PM CW MOVIE: HAIR SHOW - 1.08 million, 0.8/2 HH, 0.4/2, 0.4/1

My thoughts: CBS was leader of the pack with its showing of theatrical 'Walk the Line' which did a night best in the ratings. ABC's finance special was a bust, and also very strange if you watched it, while Dateline beat competing 20/20 by a landslide, especially in the 10pm hour. Don't Forget the Lyrics was the only other original, which did a little better than Dollhouse was doing at the end of its run - and that got renewed. I'm still scratching my head as to why FOX cancelled this and 5th Grader, which are still modest performers.

Saturday, May 30
ABC:
8:00PM WIPEOUT SAT-REPEAT - 3.07 million, 1.8/4 HH, 1.0/4, 1.1/4
9:00PM HERE COME THE NEWLYWEDS SAT-REPEAT - 2.07 million, 1.4/3 HH, 0.7/2, 0.8/3
10:00PM PUSHING DAISIES - 2.32 million, 1.5/3 HH, 0.7/2, 0.9/3

CBS:
8:00PM CRIMETIME SATURDAY -REPEAT - 3.32 million, 2.2/5 HH, 0.5/2, 0.8/3
9:00PM HARPER'S ISLAND - 3.62 million, 2.4/5 HH, 0.9/3, 1.1/4
10:00PM 48 HOURS MYSTERY -REPEAT - 5.95 million, 4.1/8 HH, 1.2/4, 1.8/5

NBC:
8:00PM NBC NHL STANLEY CUP FINALS GAME 1 PITTSBURGH AT DETROIT - 4.36 million, 2.4/5 HH, 1.7/6, 1.8/6

FOX:
8:00PM COPS -REPEAT - 3.22 million, 2.1/5 HH, 1.1/5, 1.2/5
8:30PM COPS - 3.92 million, 2.5/5 HH, 1.2/5, 1.4/5
9:00PM AMERICA'S MOST WANTED - 4.61 million, 2.9/6 HH, 1.3/4, 1.6/5

My thoughts: ABC and CBS both had original episodes, of Harper's Island and the long-awaited return of Pushing Daisies. As expected, both did badly. But, fans should just be happy the unaired episodes of Daisies are being aired. Meanwhile, Harper's Island really dipped once CBS aired a Mentalist repeat 3 weeks ago. The NHL Game 1 did very well (Go Wings!), a little better than last year, which featured the same matchup as last year. Concerning, though, is FOX's normal lineup of COPS and America's Most Wanted, which seems really down lately. Personally, I don't see why FOX continues to renew them. I think they could really do better on this night if they tried.

Sunday, May 31
ABC:
7:00PM AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS -REPEAT - 5.26 million, 3.2/6 HH, 1.5/5, 1.8/6
8:00PM EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION -REPEAT - 4.87 million, 3.0/5 HH, 1.6/5, 1.8/5
9:00PM DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES -REPEAT - 2.69 million, 1.8/3 HH, 0.8/2, 1.0/2
10:01PM BROTHERS & SISTERS -REPEAT - 2.53 million, 1.8/3 HH, 0.7/2, 0.9/2

CBS:
7:00PM 60 MINUTES -REPEAT - 8.77 million, 5.9/12 HH, 1.1/4, 1.7/5
8:00PM MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD - 6.73 million, 4.4/8 HH, 1.1/4, 1.6/4
9:00PM COLD CASE -REPEAT - 7.71 million, 4.9/8 HH, 1.5/4, 2.1/5
10:00PM UNIT, THE -REPEAT - 5.7 million, 3.7/6 HH, 1.3/3, 1.6/4

NBC:
7:00PM DATELINE SUNDAY - 3.67 million, 2.4/5 HH, 0.9/3, 1.1/4
9:00PM NBC NHL STANLEY CUP FINALS GAME #2 PITTSBURGH AT DETROIT - 5.39 million, 3.1/5 HH, 2.4/7, 2.6/7

FOX:
7:00PM KING OF THE HILL-REPEAT - 2.29 million, 1.5/3 HH, 1.1/4, 1.1/4
7:30PM AMERICAN DAD!-REPEAT - 2.65 million, 1.7/3 HH, 1.2/4, 1.2/4
7:59PM SIMPSONS, THE -REPEAT - 4.94 million, 3.0/5 HH, 2.3/7, 2.3/7
8:30PM KING OF THE HILL -REPEAT - 4.44 million, 2.8/5 HH, 2.2/6, 2.1/6
9:00PM FAMILY GUY -REPEAT - 5.35 million, 3.4/6 HH, 2.7/7, 2.4/6
9:31PM AMERICAN DAD! -REPEAT - 4.66 million, 3.0/5 HH, 2.2/6, 2.0/5

The CW:
7:00PM JERICHO CW-REPEAT - 0.57 million, 0.4/1 HH, 0.2/1, 0.3/1
8:00PM CW SUNDAY MOVIE: DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN - 1.0 million, 0.7/1 HH, 0.3/1, 0.4/1

My thoughts: CBS once again ruled Sunday night, as the most watched network of the evening. They aired an original episode of Million Dollar Password, 1 of 2 burnoff episodes, and did a decent showing, with a very low demo. Cold Case perked way up at 9pm, though, but both it and The Unit remain behind CBS' other procedural repeats. NBC aired a low-rated showing of Dateline leading into Game 2 of the NHL Finals, with was also up from last year. ABC and its repeat lineup was nothing to show off, as Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters remain unrepeatable. FOX's lineup was pretty consistent throughout the night.

CBS Summer Notes

Just a few more CBS summer notes to share with you guys. This Thursday at 8pm will be Big Bang Theory and Old Christine repeats from 8-9pm, with a CSI: Miami repeat at 10pm. Then on this coming Saturday, June 6, CBS will air an all-new, unaired episode of Worst Week at 8:30, out of a repeat of Old Christine. Old Christine will also for an hour at 8pm on June 11.

Lastly, on Saturday, July 11, Harper's Island will have a 2-hour series finale at 10pm. It was originally supposed to end on this date, but CBS preempted for a week. Now CBS has decided to end on this date after all, with a 2 hour series finale. If you haven't watched the show in awhile, I suggest you do, as we're definitely learning a lot about the characters and the past.

Very happy about the unaired Worst Week! This is definitely a show that was perfect for just 1 season. I forgot all about the unaired episode, and I'm glad CBS has decided to air it. Hopefully they'll promote it some. And, that's definitely a lot of Old Christine!

ABC Adds Reality Series to Summer Lineup

ABC has announced that they have added an additional reality series, titled "Crash Course," to air later this summer. 7 1-hour episodes of the series have been picked up.

The show will feature couples taking extreme diving challenges, until one couple ends up in the final round, the crash course. The show will fit in perfectly with Wipeout and I Survived a Japanese Gameshows, which are becoming summer staples at the network.

A premiere date has not yet been set, but expect to see it hit the schedule in late July.

ABC Summer Changes

In The Motherhood, which was set to premiere for its last 3 episodes on Friday, June 5, will now be pushed back to Thursday, June 25. The show will air for a 3-week run its final 3 unaired episode at 8:30. Samantha Who? will supposedly be airing at 8:00, but it's unclear if these airings will be repeats or unaired episodes.

Also interesting, Samantha Who? will be encoring on Fridays at 9:00 and 9:30 starting June 5th. The show has quite a few unaired episodes left, so its strange as to why ABC is airing repeats of it, especially since the show has been cancelled. Perhaps ABC isn't quite done with it afterall?

Source: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=8135

EDIT: We now have the full ABC summer schedule changes. Fridays, June 5-19 will be Samantha Who? repeas 9-10pm. On Friday, June 26, According to Jim repeats will air at 9pm. And, beginning on Friday, July 3 will be According to Jim repeats at 9pm and the third timeslot premiere of Surviving Suburbia with continued new episodes. 4 or 5 episodes should be left to air at this point. Surviving Suburbia and Goode Family will continue to air at 9pm on Wednesdays it seems until then.

Tuesdays, beginning June 23, will now be Better Off Ted and Scrubs repeats out of The Superstars, at 9pm. Thursdays, beginning June 25 will be all new Samantha Who?s and In the Motherhoods at 8pm. Meanwhile, it's still unclear what will air once In The Motherhood airs its 3 planned episodes. It could possibly be SW? or more Jim repeats.

Both Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia did terribly last night, so both are clearly done with after finishing their runs. Seems like ABC is trying to pump up Better Off Ted, though, by airing it after The Superstars, which will probably be a modest hit for summer.

ANOTHER UPDATE: The return of Better Off Ted will now be new episodes instead of repeats. And, Surviving Suburbia will not be airing next week - a second The Goode Family will air instead.

"Jon & Kate" Premiere Sets Record Ratings

I just had to post this, because it's really quite incredible.

Last night's 5th season premiere of TLC hit "Jon & Kate Plus 8" was watched by a record 9.8 million viewers, which is nearly double of what the show's record was, set by the show last season.

The episode posted the best ever demos in adults 18-49 (6.3 rating) and women (9.1 rating).

What's even more impressive - it outrated every show that aired on broadcast television last night. "Jon & Kate" beat the highest rated broadcast show - Medium, 7.8 million, by nearly 2 million viewers.

After all the news about Jon and Kate cheating on each other, and Jon having an affair with a 23-year old school teacher, while Kate remained on the road for her job, curiosity seemed to bring in many extra viewers. The show showed the both of them seperate, and it's now out in the open that they are going through many marital problems. The episode was left with a cliffhanger, as Jon & Kate sat together for an interview as the question "What does the future hold?" was asked.

Applegate Urges Fans to Save Her Show!

From IMDB:

"Applegate Petitions For Samantha Who?
25 May 2009 9:05 AM, PDT

Christina Applegate has become the latest celebrity to launch a campaign to save their TV show - she is urging fans to sign a petition for her axed series Samantha Who?

Applegate was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for the show last year.

It was not enough to save the programme - bosses at America's ABC network have cancelled it economic reasons.

But Applegate is refusing to give up without a fight, and has launched an online campaign to persuade TV chiefs to change their minds.

She has posted a link on her Twitter.com internet page urging her followers to sign an online petition, which currently has 2,400 signatures and is expected to be forwarded to executives at ABC in the next few weeks.

Applegate wrote, "I want 10,000 signatures by Monday. Am I being greedy?"

The actress is following in the footsteps of Ethan Suplee who is campaigning to save his own show, My Name Is Earl, which was also axed earlier this month."

Ratings Report - Week of Monday, May 18

Okay, we're back for the final ratings report of the season! This week saw many series finales, with the first day of the summer season on Thursday (which also saw season finales). Throughout summer, I'll continue with the summer ratings report, so stay tuned for those each week.

Monday, May 18
ABC:
8:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS - 19.17 million, 12.2/20 HH, 4.4/13, 5.6/15
9:02PM THE BACHELORETTE - 8.69 million, 5.9/10 HH, 3.0/8, 3.4/8

CBS:
8:00PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT - 7.5 million, 4.7/8 HH, 2.7/8, 3.2/9
8:30PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - 8.73 million, 5.4/9 HH, 3.7/10, 4.2/11
9:00PM TWO AND A HALF MEN - 16.18 million, 9.9/15 HH, 5.3/14, 6.6/16
9:30PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT - 12.87 million, 7.9/12 HH, 4.4/11, 5.6/13
10:00PM CSI: MIAMI - 14.2 million, 8.9/15 HH, 3.8/10, 5.0/13

NBC:
8:00PM DEAL OR NO DEAL MONDAY - 4.36 million, 2.8/5 HH, 1.2/4, 1.5/4
9:00PM DEAL OR NO DEAL MONDAY - 5.39, 3.4/5 HH, 1.5/4, 1.8/4
10:00PM MEDIUM - 6.56 million, 4.4/7 HH, 1.9/5, 2.6/7

FOX:
8:00PM 24 - 9.64 million, 5.7/9 HH, 3.1/9, 3.9/10

The CW:
8:00PM GOSSIP GIRL - 2.23 million, 1.6/3 HH, 1.1/3, 0.9/2
9:00PM ONE TREE HILL - 2.68 million, 1.8/3 HH, 1.3/3, 1.0/

My thoughts: Nice numbers across the board. Dancing with the Stars lead the finales at 8pm, while The Bachelorette was off to a sluggish start in my opinion. Castle was doing much better after Dancing, but for a summer series, Bachelorette remains strong. Over at CBS, Two and a Half led the sitcoms, up nearly 3 million from the previous week and close to a season high. Meanwhile, Big Bang Theory will be missed at 8pm next season, as Rules of Engagement couldn't hold up in the slot and How I Met Your Mother was lost without it. CSI: Miami was up from the previous week and went out strong. At FOX, 24 hit a season low for its season finale. Not too good, as House clearly holds this show up. It did build in its half hours, though, going from 8 million to 10 million. At NBC, Deal or No Deal, while building up nicely, was terrible once again. I believe NBC has also cancelled the primetime series, so don't expect to see this back in primetime, at least not anytime soon. And Medium didn't benefit, as it saw a rough showing at 10pm, right before NBC cancelled it. Watch out for Medium on CBS Fridays next season! Medium still has 2 more episodes to air, tonight and next Monday, the season finale. The CW had finales of their shows, but both were off a million from what they premiered to back in September.

Tuesday, May 19
ABC:
8:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS-REPEAT - 7.65 million, 5.0/8 HH, 1.8/5, 2.2/6
9:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS: THE RESULTS-FINALE - 20.31 million, 12.6/20 HH, 5.2/14, 6.5/15

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS - million, 10.3/17 HH, 16.5 million, 3.4/10, 4.6/12
9:00PM THE MENTALIST - 16.82 million, 10.4/16 HH, 3.7/10, 5.2/12
10:01PM WITHOUT A TRACE - 11.21 million, 7.3/12 HH, 2.5/7, 3.3/8

NBC:
8:00PM MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS -REPEAT - 3.0 million, 1.9/3 HH, 0.8/3, 1.0/3
8:30PM MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS -REPEAT - 2.99 million, 1.9/3 HH,
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU-REPEAT - 3.48 million, 2.4/4 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/3
10:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU - 6.93 million, 4.7/8 HH, 2.5/7, 2.9/7

FOX:
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY - 23.82 million, 13.5/22 HH, 8.6/25, 10.3/17
9:03PM GLEE PREVIEW THRU 10:02PM ET - 9.62 million, 5.6/9 HH, 3.9/10, 4.4/10

The CW:
8:00PM REAPER - 1.71 million, 1.1/2 HH, 0.7/2, 0.6/2
9:00PM 90210 - 2.0 million, 1.4/2 HH, 1.1/3, 0.9/2

My thoughts: The Dancing finale seemed to have an effect across the board. The results show was up nearly 6 million from the previous week, so it was a great showing and a great finale. American Idol aired at 8pm and still dominated, leading into the preview premiere of Glee at a respectable rating. It was a little better than Fringe the previous week, which is the good news. I'm sure FOX will be happy if it can continue to get those ratings. If anyone watched it, how did you like it? I loved it - a refreshing drama, and the music was fantastic. Meanwhile, the CBS finales also did good, with both NCIS and The Mentalist holding up very well against the Idol and Dancing. The Mentalist rose hugely in the demo from NCIS and in total viewers. Without a Trace's finale was off 2 million from the previous week, as it turned out to be the series finale. And the Law & Order: SVU finale was absolutely terrible, and a series low. Seems like DWTS had a huge effect on it. NBC should be worried with those numbers.

Wednesday, May 20
ABC:
8:00PM ABC WEDNESDAY MOVIE OF THE WEEK: PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN - DEAD MAN'S CHEST - 3.41 million, 2.2/4 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/3

CBS:
8:00PM OLD CHRISTINE - 5.55 million, 3.7/7 HH, 1.6/5, 2.1/6
8:30PM GARY UNMARRIED - 5.52 million, 3.7/6 HH, 1.7/5, 2.2/6
9:00PM CRIMINAL MINDS - 13.99 million, 8.7/14 HH, 3.5/9, 4.7/11

NBC:
8:00PM LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT NBC - 5.04 million, 3.5/6 HH, 1.0/3, 1.3/4
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU WED-REPEAT - 4.32 million, 3.0/5 HH, 1.0/3, 1.3/3
10:00PM LAW & ORDER - 6.67 million, 4.6/8 HH,2.0/5, 2.5/6

FOX:
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL WED THRU 10:07PM ET - 28.84 million, 16.1/27 HH, 10.0/28, 11.8/30

The CW:
8:00PM CW MOVIE: TAKE THE LEAD-REPEAT - 1.24 millio, 0.9/1 HH, 0.4/1, 0.4/1

My thoughts: Clearly FOX dominated this final day of May sweeps with the American Idol finale. It amazes me how people will only come to watch the premiere and the finale of this show. Congratulations to Kris! The only thing that held up against it was Criminal Minds, which had a respectable 14 million for its season finale. CBS should be very proud with that. The comedies, meanwhile, all hit series lows. I'm sure it was the Idol finale that really effected them, but it probably would have been a good idea to move the comedy hour to Tuesdays, putting NCIS: LA to Wednesdays at 8pm. ABC gave up the night, and Law & Order should make a good Friday show for NBC.

Thursday, May 21
ABC:
8:00 UGLY BETTY - 6.27 million, 1.9/6 (18-49)
10:00 GREY'S ANATOMY-REPEAT - 3.61 million, 1.1/3

CBS:
8:00 NCIS-REPEAT - 7.37 million, 1.3/5
9:00 CSI-REPEAT - 9.64 million, 1.9/6
10:00 FLASHPOINT-REPEAT - 7.49 million, 1.8/5

NBC:
8:00 MY NAME IS EARL-REPEAT - 3.32 million, 1.1/4
8:30 30 ROCK-REPEAT - 2.79 million, 1.2/4
9:00 THE OFFICE-REPEAT - 3.28 million, 1.4/4
9:30 30 ROCK-REPEAT - 3.19 million, 1.3/4
10:00 SOUTHLAND - 6.39 million, 2.0/6

FOX:
8:00 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE - 8.77 million, 3.4/11

The CW:
8:00 SMALLVILLE-REPEAT - 1.42 million, 0.5/2
9:00 SUPERNATURAL-REPEAT - 1.29 million, 0.5/1

My thoughts: And the summer season officially starts! Ugly Betty aired is finale out of season on ABC with a season low. But, if it can do this on Fridays next season, I'm sure ABC will be happy. If it continues to go down - next season will definitely be its last. Southland was the other finale, at an almost identical rating. Southland will be moving to the same timeslot on Fridays next season. My guess is it will drop even more. I'm definitley going to give the edge to Medium next season, with Ugly Betty coming in second, Southland a close third, and Dollhouse deadlast at 9pm. And summer favorite So You Think You Can Dance premiered to respectable ratings. But, those are not the ratings FOX will want in the fall. It will need to do better than this.

Friday, May 22
ABC:
8:00 WIFE SWAP-REPEAT - 3.23 million, 1.0/4
9:00 SUPERNANNY-REPEAT - 2.57 million, 0.8/3
10:00 20/20 - 4.5 million, 1.3/4

CBS:
8:00 GHOST WHISPERER-REPEAT - 5.98 million, 1.1/5
9:00 FLASHPOINT-REPEAT - 6.49 million, 1.2/4
10:00 NUMB3RS-REPEAT - 6.4 million, 1.1/4

NBC:
8:00 HOWIE DO IT-REPEAT - 2.3 million, 0.6/2
9:00 DATELINE - 4.8 million, 1.1/4

FOX:
8:00 DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! - 3.3 million, 1.0/5
9:00 HOUSE-REPEAT - 3.12 million, 1.0/4

The CW:
8:00 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS-REPEAT - 1.24 million, 0.4/2
8:30 THE GAME-REPEAT - 1.24 million, 0.5/2
9:00 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS-REPEAT - 1.09 million, 0.4/2
9:30 THE GAME-REPEAT - 1.1 million, 0.4/1

My thoughts: Summer continues. Don't Forget the Lyrics! returned to abysmal numbers, although it built a lot at 8:30, and without absolutely no promotion, I'm sure this is all FOX was expecting. House did even worse at 9:00. And everything else, besides Dateline and 20/20 was repeats.

Saturday, May 23
ABC:
8:00 NBA PLAYOFF, GAME 3, WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS - 6.54 million, 2.6/10

CBS:
8:00 GHOST WHISPERER-REPEAT - 2.78 million, 0.6/2
9:00 HARPER'S ISLAND - 3.9 million, 1.0/5
10:00 48 HOURS MYSTERY - 5.5 million, 1.2/4

NBC:
8:00 LAW & ORDER: CI-REPEAT - 3.24 million, 0.6/2
9:00 SOUTHLAND-REPEAT - 3.02 million, 0.7/3
10:00 LAW & ORDER-REPEAT - 4.5 million, 0.9/3

FOX:
8:00 COPS-REPEAT - 3.52 million, 1.1/5
9:00 AMERICA'S MOST WANTED - 3.71 million, 1.2/4

My thoughts: Just another Saturday. After a week off, Harper's Island returned to not-so-good numbers. But, for a Saturday, how much better could it be doing? Unfortunately, more people should be watching, but aren't - the mystery is really getting good now

Sunday, May 24
ABC:
7:00 AFV-REPEAT - 4.69 million, 1.2/5
8:00 EXTREME MAKEOVER: HE-REPEAT - 4.58 million, 1.3/5
9:00 MINISERIES: DIAMONS (PART 1) - 4.25 million, 1.0/3

CBS:
7:00 60 MINUTES - 7.95 million, 1.0/4
8:00 MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD-REPEAT - 5.19 million, 0.9/3
9:00 COLD CASE-REPEAT - 7.04 million, 1.5/5
10:00 THE UNIT-REPEAT - 5.02 million, 1.1/3

NBC:
7:00 DATELINE - 4.57 million, 0.8/3
9:00 THE LAST TEMPLAR-REPEAT - 3.84 million, 0.8/3

FOX:
7:00 NASCAR - 3.06 million, 1.2/4

The CW:
7:00 JERICHO-REPEAT - 0.61 million
8:00 LOVE IS ALL THERE IS - 0.88 million

My thoughts: ABC'S Diamonds really bombed last night. They were promoting it, too. A clearly disappointing showing. Million Dollar Password returned with a repeat, and to just okay numbers. It will be airing until Big Brother premieres, with 2 new episodes mixed in with repeats. Cold Case was the only winner of the night, in both viewers and the demo. Finally, Cold Case is a winner!

Reaper in Syndication Looking More Likely

With The CW having recently cancelled their sophomore drama Reaper, ABC Studios, which produces the show, has been looking for a new outlet to air their show. Supposedly, they have been pitching it to air in syndication.

Since The CW has recently sold back Sunday nights to syndicated markets, the producers thought of the idea to pitch it to those syndicated markets, where they could air it on The CW markets, on Sunday nights.

Now, I'm definitely one to back up fan campaigns. I have been involved in many myself. The guys at http://reaperdmv.com/ are definitely looking for a third season of Reaper. Supposedly, they have gotten word from the syndicated affiliates that a third season of Reaper is still being discussed upon, and is seeming more and more likely.

This is definitely good news. If your a fan, you can go to the site posted, where they'll give addresses and all that to write to your local affiliates, asking them to pick up Reaper for a third season. I highly recommend doing so if you'd like to see another season!

Earl on TBS?

After NBC cancelled 4-year runner "My Name is Earl" and "Medium" yesterday, both shows were not ready to give up. Medium has since found a new home on CBS, and My Name is Earl may be getting a new home as well - on TBS.

TBS execs have said that they're interested in looking into the show, yet no one from Earl has contacted them yet.

This is definitely a sign of hope for all Earl fans. While show ratings have slid dramatically this season and last, the bar would be lower on cable network TBS. The show already has solid ratings in repeats on the network, and new episodes would be the next step up.

CBS Upfront: 2009-2010 Schedule

Well, some surprising moves, and some safe moves, were made this morning as CBS was the final network to announce their 2009-2010 schedule:

Sundays:
7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 The Amazing Race
9:00 Three Rivers
10:00 Cold Case

Mondays:
8:00 How I Met Your Mother
8:30 Accidentally on Purpose
9:00 Two and a Half Men
9:30 Big Bang Theory
10:00 CSI: Miami

Tuesdays:
8:00 NCIS
9:00 NCIS: Los Angeles
10:00 The Good Wife

Wednesday:
8:00 Old Christine
8:30 Gary Unmarried
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 CSI: NY

Thursday:
8:00 Survivor
9:00 CSI
10:00 The Mentalist

Friday:
8:00 Ghost Whisperer
9:00 Medium
10:00 Numb3rs

Saturday:
8:00 Crimetime Saturday
10:00 48 Hours

For midseason, CBS has returning sitcom Rules of Engagement, which will probably end up replacing Gary Unmarried, which is expected to get a 16-20 episode season. CBS also has new dramas Miami Trauma and The Bridge, and reality shows "Undercover Boss" and "Arranged Marriage." Returning in summer 2010 is Flashpoint. The Unit, Without a Trace, and Eleventh Hour have been cancelled.

My thoughts: Many surprising moves here, including Big Bang Theory moving to 9:30. While I have no problem with it, it's a season too early, in my opinion. Men still has a good 2-3 years left in it, if not more. BBT is the strongest show CBS has at 8pm, so why sacrifice How I Met Your Mother there now? 9pm will definitely be strong for them, but Mother cannot lead off the night, and could put Jenna Elfman's new sitcom in trouble. CBS keeping the Wednesday comedies is cool, because both Old Christine and Gary Unmarried make a good pair. I think they'll be able to outrate the ABC comedies. Once again, Rules of Engagement got the shaft.

The Mentalist moving to Thursdays at 10pm could be a great move for the show, and make it an even bigger hit next season. A 2 hour NCIS block is not a good idea at all, and what's up with NCIS: Los Angeles? This isn't the CSI franchise, which they're making it look like. Cold Case Sundays at 10pm could be the show's final timeslot, as this seems like a deathslot to me. And Medium on Fridays should crush its competition of Ugly Betty, Southland, and Dollhouse. I'm expecting a very good flow on CBS Fridays next year, with a big rebound for Medium.

Any thoughts?

The CW Upfront: 2009-2010 Schedule

We'll start off today with The CW's 2009-2010 Schedule:

Mondays:
8:00 Gossip Girl
9:00 One Tree Hill

Tuesdays:
8:00 90210
9:00 Melrose Place 2.0

Wednesdays:
8:00 America's Next Top Model
9:00 The Beautiful Life

Thursdays:
8:00 Vampire Diaries
9:00 Supernatural

Fridays:
8:00 Smallville
9:00 Top Model encore

Not much to say here. The only surprising thing here is Smallville on Fridays. It could help the night, but why waste 9pm on an encore with a strong lead-in? This will be the 9th and final season for Smallville. Everything else seems good to me.

EDIT: I forgot to add this in, but The CW has also picked up drama "Parental Discretion Advised" for midseason. It's about a 15 year old who's trying to become an emancipated minor after a life of foster care, but ends up meeting her bioligical parents, whom she starts a new life with. Britt Robertson (Swingtown) stars. This sounds like a great drama to me, the best The CW has had since they launched, in fact. I'll definitely be tuning into this one, but I'm sad to see it pushed back until midseason.

Medium Update: CBS "Blindsighted" by Cancellation

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118003928.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2565

"The news wasn’t as sweet for “My Name Is Earl” and “Medium.”

“We didn’t see any letters or chatter for those shows,” Silverman said. “And we didn’t see any creative momentum.”

“Earl” and “Medium” aren’t completely dead. “Earl” producer
20th Century Fox TV is set to talk to Fox and ABC about potentially moving the laffer to those nets. And “Medium,” which comes from CBS TV Studios, looks likely to move to CBS, where it would make a logical companion to “Ghost Whisperer.”

As for
"Medium," CBS execs felt so blindsided by the move that they took the unusual step of sending out a tersely-worded statement.

"NBC’s cancellation of 'Medium' is inexplicable to us," the CBS statement read. "The ratings don’t lie: 'Medium' outperforms many of NBC’s renewed shows.... We believe the show has a significant future and await developments."

That, of course, is believed to be a thinly-veiled hint at the CBS network's acquisition of the show.

No chatter for Medium? All I've been hearing around message boards and forums on the web is people wanting to see Medium renewed. Even my poll proved it: it had 1 more vote than Law & Order to be renewed. Obviously people wanting it back.

But, the news is still good for this show. As you can probably tell, it's a person favorite of mine. I think it's the best drama currently on television. With this news, CBS will most likely pick up the show. Still, I encourage every fan to write a letter right now, and get it in the mail tomorrow. Their addresses can be found all over the web. I can also send it to you via email if you request.

UPDATE: According to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood, CBS has now picked up Medium to air with Ghost Whisperer, apparently for a full season. This would be the first full season of Medium in 3 years is true. Some behind-the-scenes stuff: NBC wanted 13 episodes, the production companies wanted 16 episodes, and Patricia Arquette wanted 22 episodes. Clearly, NBC dropped out.

CBS News: Trace cancelled, Comedies Renewed

This has been a tough upfront week for many fans of many shows. And unfortunately, the bad news doesn't end. I'm hearing that Without a Trace has been cancelled by CBS, according to Ausiello. Apparently, they had one slot left, and it was between Without a Trace and Numb3rs. They decided to go with Friday staple Numb3rs after a very strong ending on Friday, which got 22 episodes, and was much less expensive to produce.

Overall, this is a shame. I don't see how CBS could cancel a show that just got over 13 million viewers for its season finale. It doesn't make sense to me.

Also goners: Eleventh Hour and The Unit. All 3 shows have many, many fans, and although I'm not fans of any of these 3 shows, I will console with you guys, because I understand what it feels like to get your favorite show cancelled. And, the only show that probably deserved a pink slip was The Unit. The other 2 should have been back.

Also, all on the bubble comedies have been renewed. How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Old Christine, and Gary Unmarried have all been renewed for second seasons. I guess CBS' new comedy pilots were busts, besides Accidentally on Purpose. How I Met Your Mother and Old Christine are expected to get full seasons, while Rules and Gary will most likely get a 13 episode pickup. With ABC still riding the coattails of CBS about Old Christine, CBS would almost have to give it a full season if they wanted to keep it at all.

The only on the bubble show really left is Flashpoint. And it looks like CBS will have to make a choice by tomorrow whether to go with Medium, from NBC, which they produce, or Flashpoint, a Canadian production. CBS wants to keep Medium going for syndication value, and CBS will not have any say in the syndication of Flashpoint, so the obvious choice would be Medium, but who knows. If they did pick it up, I'm guessing it would go to Fridays at 9pm. They will announce their schedule tomorrow.

NBC Upfront 2009-2010 Season

While there have been many leaked NBC schedules, this one is the official one, released hours ago:

Fall 2009
Mondays:
8:00 Heroes
9:00 Trauma

Tuesdays:
8:00 The Biggest Loser

Wednesdays:
8:00 Parenthood
9:00 Law & Order: SVU

Thursdays:
8:00 SNL Weekend Update Thursday/Community
8:30 Parks & Recreation
9:00 The Office
9:30 Community/30 Rock

Fridays:
8:00 Law & Order
9:00 Southland

Saturdays:
8:00 Dateline NBC
9:00 Trauma repeats
10:00 Law & Order: SVU repeats

Midseason 2010:
Sundays:
7:00 Dateline NBC
8:00 The Marriage Ref
9:00 Celebrity Apprentice 3

Mondays:
8:00 Chuck
9:00 Day One

Tuesdays:
8:00 The Biggest Loser
9:30 100 Questions

Wednesdays:
8:00 Mercy
9:00 Law & Order: SVU

Thursdays:
8:00 Community
8:30 Parks & Recreation
9:00 The Office
9:30 30 Rock

Fridays:
8:00 Law & Order
9:00 Southland

Saturdays:
8:00 Dateline NBC
9:00 Southland repeats
10:00 Law & Order: SVU repeats

The Jay Leno will of course be airing Monday-Friday at 10pm. Midseason shows will launch after the Winter Olympics, February 12-28. For the summer, new seasons of America's Got Talent and Friday Night Lights will air, along with newcomer Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, The Jay Leno Show, and Dateline. Depending on how their summer series do this summer, they could also see a renewal. And the saddest news of the entire day: Medium and My Name is Earl have been cancelled.

My thoughts: First of all, I am pissed that NBC cancelled Medium. In the bad shape they're in, you'd think they'd want a reliable show where they could stick anywhere, especially if Jay Leno fails. Probably their biggest mistake all season. The good news, though: CBS Entertainment, producer of the show, doesn't want it to end just after 5 seasons. They are looking to continue it for another season or 2, so it could end up on CBS, airing Fridays at 9pm. So, it isn't entirely cancelled yet! And My Name is Earl - that was probably a given. FOX was interested, but turns out they're not anymore. Meanwhile, Chuck getting renewed over Medium was just silly, and a big mistake. To be honest, the rest of the schedule doesn't look too bad actually. I don't know about Southland Fridays at 9pm, though. Same goes for this: why would they renew Southland over Medium? I don't get it.

I'd love to hear what you guys think.

ABC Upfront 2009-2010 Schedule

Well, not too bad of a schedule over at ABC for fall upfronts. Here's there schedule for this fall, with some added midseason notes:

Sundays:
7:00 AFV
8:00 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
9:00 Desperate Housewives
10:00 Brothers & Sisters

Mondays:
8:00 Dancing with the Stars
10:00 Castle

Tuesdays:
8:00 The Shark Tank
9:00 Dancing with the Stars: Results
10:00 The Forgotten

Wednesdays:
8:00 Hank
8:30 The Middle
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 Cougar Town
10:00 Eastwick

Thursdays:
8:00 Flash Forward
9:00 Grey's Anatomy
10:00 Private Practice

Fridays:
8:00 Supernanny
9:00 Ugly Betty
10:00 20/20

And for midseason, The Deep End, Happy Town, and V will all make it on the schedule. Other pilots, like Inside the Box, haven't been picked up yet, but are still under consideration, so shouldn't be counted out. Meanwhile, as reported, Samantha Who? has been cancelled. McPherson said although it's a great show, they are very disappointed in its ratings. Cupid and The Unusuals are also goners. Meanwhile, no decision has been made on Surviving Suburbia yet. They want to see how it performs this summer in its new slot, Wednesdays at 9:30, before making a decision. Scrubs and Better Off Ted will return again in January, airing Tuesdays at 9pm until DWTS returns, so both will have only 9-13 episodes this season. Zach Braff will return for at least 6 episodes of Scrubs, so it won't be a total lost. The Bachelor will return, airing 8-10pm on Mondays in January. Lost will return for its final season, but has not been scheduled yet. I'm guessing it depends on how all their new shows do. If the sitcom block succeeds, it will be great for the network. I love how 8-9:30 is Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton, then the Christopher Lloyd/Steve Levitan pilot, who also created Frasier and Back to You, which Heaton and Grammar both starred in last season. A coincidence?

My thoughts: Overall, a good schedule. I kind of wish Brothers & Sisters would have moved out of Sundays. Ugly Betty on Fridays is a good idea, but paired with Supernanny? Wednesdays will be all new this fall, which could be very risky. They tried it before with Pushing Daisies/Private Practice/Dirty Sexy Money, which didn't work. Flash Forward will most likely succeed, but the other dramas could go either way.

Do you like the schedule? What are your thoughts? Post a comment~!
