CBS Summer Notes

Just a few more CBS summer notes to share with you guys. This Thursday at 8pm will be Big Bang Theory and Old Christine repeats from 8-9pm, with a CSI: Miami repeat at 10pm. Then on this coming Saturday, June 6, CBS will air an all-new, unaired episode of Worst Week at 8:30, out of a repeat of Old Christine. Old Christine will also for an hour at 8pm on June 11.

Lastly, on Saturday, July 11, Harper's Island will have a 2-hour series finale at 10pm. It was originally supposed to end on this date, but CBS preempted for a week. Now CBS has decided to end on this date after all, with a 2 hour series finale. If you haven't watched the show in awhile, I suggest you do, as we're definitely learning a lot about the characters and the past.

Very happy about the unaired Worst Week! This is definitely a show that was perfect for just 1 season. I forgot all about the unaired episode, and I'm glad CBS has decided to air it. Hopefully they'll promote it some. And, that's definitely a lot of Old Christine!

ABC Adds Reality Series to Summer Lineup

ABC has announced that they have added an additional reality series, titled "Crash Course," to air later this summer. 7 1-hour episodes of the series have been picked up.

The show will feature couples taking extreme diving challenges, until one couple ends up in the final round, the crash course. The show will fit in perfectly with Wipeout and I Survived a Japanese Gameshows, which are becoming summer staples at the network.

A premiere date has not yet been set, but expect to see it hit the schedule in late July.

ABC Summer Changes

In The Motherhood, which was set to premiere for its last 3 episodes on Friday, June 5, will now be pushed back to Thursday, June 25. The show will air for a 3-week run its final 3 unaired episode at 8:30. Samantha Who? will supposedly be airing at 8:00, but it's unclear if these airings will be repeats or unaired episodes.

Also interesting, Samantha Who? will be encoring on Fridays at 9:00 and 9:30 starting June 5th. The show has quite a few unaired episodes left, so its strange as to why ABC is airing repeats of it, especially since the show has been cancelled. Perhaps ABC isn't quite done with it afterall?

Source: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=8135

EDIT: We now have the full ABC summer schedule changes. Fridays, June 5-19 will be Samantha Who? repeas 9-10pm. On Friday, June 26, According to Jim repeats will air at 9pm. And, beginning on Friday, July 3 will be According to Jim repeats at 9pm and the third timeslot premiere of Surviving Suburbia with continued new episodes. 4 or 5 episodes should be left to air at this point. Surviving Suburbia and Goode Family will continue to air at 9pm on Wednesdays it seems until then.

Tuesdays, beginning June 23, will now be Better Off Ted and Scrubs repeats out of The Superstars, at 9pm. Thursdays, beginning June 25 will be all new Samantha Who?s and In the Motherhoods at 8pm. Meanwhile, it's still unclear what will air once In The Motherhood airs its 3 planned episodes. It could possibly be SW? or more Jim repeats.

Both Goode Family and Surviving Suburbia did terribly last night, so both are clearly done with after finishing their runs. Seems like ABC is trying to pump up Better Off Ted, though, by airing it after The Superstars, which will probably be a modest hit for summer.

ANOTHER UPDATE: The return of Better Off Ted will now be new episodes instead of repeats. And, Surviving Suburbia will not be airing next week - a second The Goode Family will air instead.

"Jon & Kate" Premiere Sets Record Ratings

I just had to post this, because it's really quite incredible.

Last night's 5th season premiere of TLC hit "Jon & Kate Plus 8" was watched by a record 9.8 million viewers, which is nearly double of what the show's record was, set by the show last season.

The episode posted the best ever demos in adults 18-49 (6.3 rating) and women (9.1 rating).

What's even more impressive - it outrated every show that aired on broadcast television last night. "Jon & Kate" beat the highest rated broadcast show - Medium, 7.8 million, by nearly 2 million viewers.

After all the news about Jon and Kate cheating on each other, and Jon having an affair with a 23-year old school teacher, while Kate remained on the road for her job, curiosity seemed to bring in many extra viewers. The show showed the both of them seperate, and it's now out in the open that they are going through many marital problems. The episode was left with a cliffhanger, as Jon & Kate sat together for an interview as the question "What does the future hold?" was asked.

Applegate Urges Fans to Save Her Show!

From IMDB:

"Applegate Petitions For Samantha Who?
25 May 2009 9:05 AM, PDT

Christina Applegate has become the latest celebrity to launch a campaign to save their TV show - she is urging fans to sign a petition for her axed series Samantha Who?

Applegate was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for the show last year.

It was not enough to save the programme - bosses at America's ABC network have cancelled it economic reasons.

But Applegate is refusing to give up without a fight, and has launched an online campaign to persuade TV chiefs to change their minds.

She has posted a link on her Twitter.com internet page urging her followers to sign an online petition, which currently has 2,400 signatures and is expected to be forwarded to executives at ABC in the next few weeks.

Applegate wrote, "I want 10,000 signatures by Monday. Am I being greedy?"

The actress is following in the footsteps of Ethan Suplee who is campaigning to save his own show, My Name Is Earl, which was also axed earlier this month."

You can sign the petition here:

Ratings Report - Week of Monday, May 18

Okay, we're back for the final ratings report of the season! This week saw many series finales, with the first day of the summer season on Thursday (which also saw season finales). Throughout summer, I'll continue with the summer ratings report, so stay tuned for those each week.

Monday, May 18
ABC:
8:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS - 19.17 million, 12.2/20 HH, 4.4/13, 5.6/15
9:02PM THE BACHELORETTE - 8.69 million, 5.9/10 HH, 3.0/8, 3.4/8

CBS:
8:00PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT - 7.5 million, 4.7/8 HH, 2.7/8, 3.2/9
8:30PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - 8.73 million, 5.4/9 HH, 3.7/10, 4.2/11
9:00PM TWO AND A HALF MEN - 16.18 million, 9.9/15 HH, 5.3/14, 6.6/16
9:30PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT - 12.87 million, 7.9/12 HH, 4.4/11, 5.6/13
10:00PM CSI: MIAMI - 14.2 million, 8.9/15 HH, 3.8/10, 5.0/13

NBC:
8:00PM DEAL OR NO DEAL MONDAY - 4.36 million, 2.8/5 HH, 1.2/4, 1.5/4
9:00PM DEAL OR NO DEAL MONDAY - 5.39, 3.4/5 HH, 1.5/4, 1.8/4
10:00PM MEDIUM - 6.56 million, 4.4/7 HH, 1.9/5, 2.6/7

FOX:
8:00PM 24 - 9.64 million, 5.7/9 HH, 3.1/9, 3.9/10

The CW:
8:00PM GOSSIP GIRL - 2.23 million, 1.6/3 HH, 1.1/3, 0.9/2
9:00PM ONE TREE HILL - 2.68 million, 1.8/3 HH, 1.3/3, 1.0/

My thoughts: Nice numbers across the board. Dancing with the Stars lead the finales at 8pm, while The Bachelorette was off to a sluggish start in my opinion. Castle was doing much better after Dancing, but for a summer series, Bachelorette remains strong. Over at CBS, Two and a Half led the sitcoms, up nearly 3 million from the previous week and close to a season high. Meanwhile, Big Bang Theory will be missed at 8pm next season, as Rules of Engagement couldn't hold up in the slot and How I Met Your Mother was lost without it. CSI: Miami was up from the previous week and went out strong. At FOX, 24 hit a season low for its season finale. Not too good, as House clearly holds this show up. It did build in its half hours, though, going from 8 million to 10 million. At NBC, Deal or No Deal, while building up nicely, was terrible once again. I believe NBC has also cancelled the primetime series, so don't expect to see this back in primetime, at least not anytime soon. And Medium didn't benefit, as it saw a rough showing at 10pm, right before NBC cancelled it. Watch out for Medium on CBS Fridays next season! Medium still has 2 more episodes to air, tonight and next Monday, the season finale. The CW had finales of their shows, but both were off a million from what they premiered to back in September.

Tuesday, May 19
ABC:
8:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS-REPEAT - 7.65 million, 5.0/8 HH, 1.8/5, 2.2/6
9:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS: THE RESULTS-FINALE - 20.31 million, 12.6/20 HH, 5.2/14, 6.5/15

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS - million, 10.3/17 HH, 16.5 million, 3.4/10, 4.6/12
9:00PM THE MENTALIST - 16.82 million, 10.4/16 HH, 3.7/10, 5.2/12
10:01PM WITHOUT A TRACE - 11.21 million, 7.3/12 HH, 2.5/7, 3.3/8

NBC:
8:00PM MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS -REPEAT - 3.0 million, 1.9/3 HH, 0.8/3, 1.0/3
8:30PM MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS -REPEAT - 2.99 million, 1.9/3 HH,
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU-REPEAT - 3.48 million, 2.4/4 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/3
10:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU - 6.93 million, 4.7/8 HH, 2.5/7, 2.9/7

FOX:
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY - 23.82 million, 13.5/22 HH, 8.6/25, 10.3/17
9:03PM GLEE PREVIEW THRU 10:02PM ET - 9.62 million, 5.6/9 HH, 3.9/10, 4.4/10

The CW:
8:00PM REAPER - 1.71 million, 1.1/2 HH, 0.7/2, 0.6/2
9:00PM 90210 - 2.0 million, 1.4/2 HH, 1.1/3, 0.9/2

My thoughts: The Dancing finale seemed to have an effect across the board. The results show was up nearly 6 million from the previous week, so it was a great showing and a great finale. American Idol aired at 8pm and still dominated, leading into the preview premiere of Glee at a respectable rating. It was a little better than Fringe the previous week, which is the good news. I'm sure FOX will be happy if it can continue to get those ratings. If anyone watched it, how did you like it? I loved it - a refreshing drama, and the music was fantastic. Meanwhile, the CBS finales also did good, with both NCIS and The Mentalist holding up very well against the Idol and Dancing. The Mentalist rose hugely in the demo from NCIS and in total viewers. Without a Trace's finale was off 2 million from the previous week, as it turned out to be the series finale. And the Law & Order: SVU finale was absolutely terrible, and a series low. Seems like DWTS had a huge effect on it. NBC should be worried with those numbers.

Wednesday, May 20
ABC:
8:00PM ABC WEDNESDAY MOVIE OF THE WEEK: PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN - DEAD MAN'S CHEST - 3.41 million, 2.2/4 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/3

CBS:
8:00PM OLD CHRISTINE - 5.55 million, 3.7/7 HH, 1.6/5, 2.1/6
8:30PM GARY UNMARRIED - 5.52 million, 3.7/6 HH, 1.7/5, 2.2/6
9:00PM CRIMINAL MINDS - 13.99 million, 8.7/14 HH, 3.5/9, 4.7/11

NBC:
8:00PM LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT NBC - 5.04 million, 3.5/6 HH, 1.0/3, 1.3/4
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU WED-REPEAT - 4.32 million, 3.0/5 HH, 1.0/3, 1.3/3
10:00PM LAW & ORDER - 6.67 million, 4.6/8 HH,2.0/5, 2.5/6

FOX:
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL WED THRU 10:07PM ET - 28.84 million, 16.1/27 HH, 10.0/28, 11.8/30

The CW:
8:00PM CW MOVIE: TAKE THE LEAD-REPEAT - 1.24 millio, 0.9/1 HH, 0.4/1, 0.4/1

My thoughts: Clearly FOX dominated this final day of May sweeps with the American Idol finale. It amazes me how people will only come to watch the premiere and the finale of this show. Congratulations to Kris! The only thing that held up against it was Criminal Minds, which had a respectable 14 million for its season finale. CBS should be very proud with that. The comedies, meanwhile, all hit series lows. I'm sure it was the Idol finale that really effected them, but it probably would have been a good idea to move the comedy hour to Tuesdays, putting NCIS: LA to Wednesdays at 8pm. ABC gave up the night, and Law & Order should make a good Friday show for NBC.

Thursday, May 21
ABC:
8:00 UGLY BETTY - 6.27 million, 1.9/6 (18-49)
10:00 GREY'S ANATOMY-REPEAT - 3.61 million, 1.1/3

CBS:
8:00 NCIS-REPEAT - 7.37 million, 1.3/5
9:00 CSI-REPEAT - 9.64 million, 1.9/6
10:00 FLASHPOINT-REPEAT - 7.49 million, 1.8/5

NBC:
8:00 MY NAME IS EARL-REPEAT - 3.32 million, 1.1/4
8:30 30 ROCK-REPEAT - 2.79 million, 1.2/4
9:00 THE OFFICE-REPEAT - 3.28 million, 1.4/4
9:30 30 ROCK-REPEAT - 3.19 million, 1.3/4
10:00 SOUTHLAND - 6.39 million, 2.0/6

FOX:
8:00 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE - 8.77 million, 3.4/11

The CW:
8:00 SMALLVILLE-REPEAT - 1.42 million, 0.5/2
9:00 SUPERNATURAL-REPEAT - 1.29 million, 0.5/1

My thoughts: And the summer season officially starts! Ugly Betty aired is finale out of season on ABC with a season low. But, if it can do this on Fridays next season, I'm sure ABC will be happy. If it continues to go down - next season will definitely be its last. Southland was the other finale, at an almost identical rating. Southland will be moving to the same timeslot on Fridays next season. My guess is it will drop even more. I'm definitley going to give the edge to Medium next season, with Ugly Betty coming in second, Southland a close third, and Dollhouse deadlast at 9pm. And summer favorite So You Think You Can Dance premiered to respectable ratings. But, those are not the ratings FOX will want in the fall. It will need to do better than this.

Friday, May 22
ABC:
8:00 WIFE SWAP-REPEAT - 3.23 million, 1.0/4
9:00 SUPERNANNY-REPEAT - 2.57 million, 0.8/3
10:00 20/20 - 4.5 million, 1.3/4

CBS:
8:00 GHOST WHISPERER-REPEAT - 5.98 million, 1.1/5
9:00 FLASHPOINT-REPEAT - 6.49 million, 1.2/4
10:00 NUMB3RS-REPEAT - 6.4 million, 1.1/4

NBC:
8:00 HOWIE DO IT-REPEAT - 2.3 million, 0.6/2
9:00 DATELINE - 4.8 million, 1.1/4

FOX:
8:00 DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS! - 3.3 million, 1.0/5
9:00 HOUSE-REPEAT - 3.12 million, 1.0/4

The CW:
8:00 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS-REPEAT - 1.24 million, 0.4/2
8:30 THE GAME-REPEAT - 1.24 million, 0.5/2
9:00 EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS-REPEAT - 1.09 million, 0.4/2
9:30 THE GAME-REPEAT - 1.1 million, 0.4/1

My thoughts: Summer continues. Don't Forget the Lyrics! returned to abysmal numbers, although it built a lot at 8:30, and without absolutely no promotion, I'm sure this is all FOX was expecting. House did even worse at 9:00. And everything else, besides Dateline and 20/20 was repeats.

Saturday, May 23
ABC:
8:00 NBA PLAYOFF, GAME 3, WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS - 6.54 million, 2.6/10

CBS:
8:00 GHOST WHISPERER-REPEAT - 2.78 million, 0.6/2
9:00 HARPER'S ISLAND - 3.9 million, 1.0/5
10:00 48 HOURS MYSTERY - 5.5 million, 1.2/4

NBC:
8:00 LAW & ORDER: CI-REPEAT - 3.24 million, 0.6/2
9:00 SOUTHLAND-REPEAT - 3.02 million, 0.7/3
10:00 LAW & ORDER-REPEAT - 4.5 million, 0.9/3

FOX:
8:00 COPS-REPEAT - 3.52 million, 1.1/5
9:00 AMERICA'S MOST WANTED - 3.71 million, 1.2/4

My thoughts: Just another Saturday. After a week off, Harper's Island returned to not-so-good numbers. But, for a Saturday, how much better could it be doing? Unfortunately, more people should be watching, but aren't - the mystery is really getting good now

Sunday, May 24
ABC:
7:00 AFV-REPEAT - 4.69 million, 1.2/5
8:00 EXTREME MAKEOVER: HE-REPEAT - 4.58 million, 1.3/5
9:00 MINISERIES: DIAMONS (PART 1) - 4.25 million, 1.0/3

CBS:
7:00 60 MINUTES - 7.95 million, 1.0/4
8:00 MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD-REPEAT - 5.19 million, 0.9/3
9:00 COLD CASE-REPEAT - 7.04 million, 1.5/5
10:00 THE UNIT-REPEAT - 5.02 million, 1.1/3

NBC:
7:00 DATELINE - 4.57 million, 0.8/3
9:00 THE LAST TEMPLAR-REPEAT - 3.84 million, 0.8/3

FOX:
7:00 NASCAR - 3.06 million, 1.2/4

The CW:
7:00 JERICHO-REPEAT - 0.61 million
8:00 LOVE IS ALL THERE IS - 0.88 million

My thoughts: ABC'S Diamonds really bombed last night. They were promoting it, too. A clearly disappointing showing. Million Dollar Password returned with a repeat, and to just okay numbers. It will be airing until Big Brother premieres, with 2 new episodes mixed in with repeats. Cold Case was the only winner of the night, in both viewers and the demo. Finally, Cold Case is a winner!

Reaper in Syndication Looking More Likely

With The CW having recently cancelled their sophomore drama Reaper, ABC Studios, which produces the show, has been looking for a new outlet to air their show. Supposedly, they have been pitching it to air in syndication.

Since The CW has recently sold back Sunday nights to syndicated markets, the producers thought of the idea to pitch it to those syndicated markets, where they could air it on The CW markets, on Sunday nights.

Now, I'm definitely one to back up fan campaigns. I have been involved in many myself. The guys at http://reaperdmv.com/ are definitely looking for a third season of Reaper. Supposedly, they have gotten word from the syndicated affiliates that a third season of Reaper is still being discussed upon, and is seeming more and more likely.

This is definitely good news. If your a fan, you can go to the site posted, where they'll give addresses and all that to write to your local affiliates, asking them to pick up Reaper for a third season. I highly recommend doing so if you'd like to see another season!

Earl on TBS?

After NBC cancelled 4-year runner "My Name is Earl" and "Medium" yesterday, both shows were not ready to give up. Medium has since found a new home on CBS, and My Name is Earl may be getting a new home as well - on TBS.

TBS execs have said that they're interested in looking into the show, yet no one from Earl has contacted them yet.

This is definitely a sign of hope for all Earl fans. While show ratings have slid dramatically this season and last, the bar would be lower on cable network TBS. The show already has solid ratings in repeats on the network, and new episodes would be the next step up.

CBS Upfront: 2009-2010 Schedule

Well, some surprising moves, and some safe moves, were made this morning as CBS was the final network to announce their 2009-2010 schedule:

Sundays:
7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 The Amazing Race
9:00 Three Rivers
10:00 Cold Case

Mondays:
8:00 How I Met Your Mother
8:30 Accidentally on Purpose
9:00 Two and a Half Men
9:30 Big Bang Theory
10:00 CSI: Miami

Tuesdays:
8:00 NCIS
9:00 NCIS: Los Angeles
10:00 The Good Wife

Wednesday:
8:00 Old Christine
8:30 Gary Unmarried
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 CSI: NY

Thursday:
8:00 Survivor
9:00 CSI
10:00 The Mentalist

Friday:
8:00 Ghost Whisperer
9:00 Medium
10:00 Numb3rs

Saturday:
8:00 Crimetime Saturday
10:00 48 Hours

For midseason, CBS has returning sitcom Rules of Engagement, which will probably end up replacing Gary Unmarried, which is expected to get a 16-20 episode season. CBS also has new dramas Miami Trauma and The Bridge, and reality shows "Undercover Boss" and "Arranged Marriage." Returning in summer 2010 is Flashpoint. The Unit, Without a Trace, and Eleventh Hour have been cancelled.

My thoughts: Many surprising moves here, including Big Bang Theory moving to 9:30. While I have no problem with it, it's a season too early, in my opinion. Men still has a good 2-3 years left in it, if not more. BBT is the strongest show CBS has at 8pm, so why sacrifice How I Met Your Mother there now? 9pm will definitely be strong for them, but Mother cannot lead off the night, and could put Jenna Elfman's new sitcom in trouble. CBS keeping the Wednesday comedies is cool, because both Old Christine and Gary Unmarried make a good pair. I think they'll be able to outrate the ABC comedies. Once again, Rules of Engagement got the shaft.

The Mentalist moving to Thursdays at 10pm could be a great move for the show, and make it an even bigger hit next season. A 2 hour NCIS block is not a good idea at all, and what's up with NCIS: Los Angeles? This isn't the CSI franchise, which they're making it look like. Cold Case Sundays at 10pm could be the show's final timeslot, as this seems like a deathslot to me. And Medium on Fridays should crush its competition of Ugly Betty, Southland, and Dollhouse. I'm expecting a very good flow on CBS Fridays next year, with a big rebound for Medium.

Any thoughts?

The CW Upfront: 2009-2010 Schedule

We'll start off today with The CW's 2009-2010 Schedule:

Mondays:
8:00 Gossip Girl
9:00 One Tree Hill

Tuesdays:
8:00 90210
9:00 Melrose Place 2.0

Wednesdays:
8:00 America's Next Top Model
9:00 The Beautiful Life

Thursdays:
8:00 Vampire Diaries
9:00 Supernatural

Fridays:
8:00 Smallville
9:00 Top Model encore

Not much to say here. The only surprising thing here is Smallville on Fridays. It could help the night, but why waste 9pm on an encore with a strong lead-in? This will be the 9th and final season for Smallville. Everything else seems good to me.

EDIT: I forgot to add this in, but The CW has also picked up drama "Parental Discretion Advised" for midseason. It's about a 15 year old who's trying to become an emancipated minor after a life of foster care, but ends up meeting her bioligical parents, whom she starts a new life with. Britt Robertson (Swingtown) stars. This sounds like a great drama to me, the best The CW has had since they launched, in fact. I'll definitely be tuning into this one, but I'm sad to see it pushed back until midseason.

Medium Update: CBS "Blindsighted" by Cancellation

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118003928.html?categoryid=14&cs=1&nid=2565

"The news wasn’t as sweet for “My Name Is Earl” and “Medium.”

“We didn’t see any letters or chatter for those shows,” Silverman said. “And we didn’t see any creative momentum.”

“Earl” and “Medium” aren’t completely dead. “Earl” producer
20th Century Fox TV is set to talk to Fox and ABC about potentially moving the laffer to those nets. And “Medium,” which comes from CBS TV Studios, looks likely to move to CBS, where it would make a logical companion to “Ghost Whisperer.”

As for
"Medium," CBS execs felt so blindsided by the move that they took the unusual step of sending out a tersely-worded statement.

"NBC’s cancellation of 'Medium' is inexplicable to us," the CBS statement read. "The ratings don’t lie: 'Medium' outperforms many of NBC’s renewed shows.... We believe the show has a significant future and await developments."

That, of course, is believed to be a thinly-veiled hint at the CBS network's acquisition of the show.

No chatter for Medium? All I've been hearing around message boards and forums on the web is people wanting to see Medium renewed. Even my poll proved it: it had 1 more vote than Law & Order to be renewed. Obviously people wanting it back.

But, the news is still good for this show. As you can probably tell, it's a person favorite of mine. I think it's the best drama currently on television. With this news, CBS will most likely pick up the show. Still, I encourage every fan to write a letter right now, and get it in the mail tomorrow. Their addresses can be found all over the web. I can also send it to you via email if you request.

UPDATE: According to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood, CBS has now picked up Medium to air with Ghost Whisperer, apparently for a full season. This would be the first full season of Medium in 3 years is true. Some behind-the-scenes stuff: NBC wanted 13 episodes, the production companies wanted 16 episodes, and Patricia Arquette wanted 22 episodes. Clearly, NBC dropped out.

CBS News: Trace cancelled, Comedies Renewed

This has been a tough upfront week for many fans of many shows. And unfortunately, the bad news doesn't end. I'm hearing that Without a Trace has been cancelled by CBS, according to Ausiello. Apparently, they had one slot left, and it was between Without a Trace and Numb3rs. They decided to go with Friday staple Numb3rs after a very strong ending on Friday, which got 22 episodes, and was much less expensive to produce.

Overall, this is a shame. I don't see how CBS could cancel a show that just got over 13 million viewers for its season finale. It doesn't make sense to me.

Also goners: Eleventh Hour and The Unit. All 3 shows have many, many fans, and although I'm not fans of any of these 3 shows, I will console with you guys, because I understand what it feels like to get your favorite show cancelled. And, the only show that probably deserved a pink slip was The Unit. The other 2 should have been back.

Also, all on the bubble comedies have been renewed. How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Old Christine, and Gary Unmarried have all been renewed for second seasons. I guess CBS' new comedy pilots were busts, besides Accidentally on Purpose. How I Met Your Mother and Old Christine are expected to get full seasons, while Rules and Gary will most likely get a 13 episode pickup. With ABC still riding the coattails of CBS about Old Christine, CBS would almost have to give it a full season if they wanted to keep it at all.

The only on the bubble show really left is Flashpoint. And it looks like CBS will have to make a choice by tomorrow whether to go with Medium, from NBC, which they produce, or Flashpoint, a Canadian production. CBS wants to keep Medium going for syndication value, and CBS will not have any say in the syndication of Flashpoint, so the obvious choice would be Medium, but who knows. If they did pick it up, I'm guessing it would go to Fridays at 9pm. They will announce their schedule tomorrow.

The Jay Leno will of course be airing Monday-Friday at 10pm. Midseason shows will launch after the Winter Olympics, February 12-28. For the summer, new seasons of America's Got Talent and Friday Night Lights will air, along with newcomer Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, The Jay Leno Show, and Dateline. Depending on how their summer series do this summer, they could also see a renewal. And the saddest news of the entire day: Medium and My Name is Earl have been cancelled.

My thoughts: First of all, I am pissed that NBC cancelled Medium. In the bad shape they're in, you'd think they'd want a reliable show where they could stick anywhere, especially if Jay Leno fails. Probably their biggest mistake all season. The good news, though: CBS Entertainment, producer of the show, doesn't want it to end just after 5 seasons. They are looking to continue it for another season or 2, so it could end up on CBS, airing Fridays at 9pm. So, it isn't entirely cancelled yet! And My Name is Earl - that was probably a given. FOX was interested, but turns out they're not anymore. Meanwhile, Chuck getting renewed over Medium was just silly, and a big mistake. To be honest, the rest of the schedule doesn't look too bad actually. I don't know about Southland Fridays at 9pm, though. Same goes for this: why would they renew Southland over Medium? I don't get it.

I'd love to hear what you guys think.

ABC Upfront 2009-2010 Schedule

Well, not too bad of a schedule over at ABC for fall upfronts. Here's there schedule for this fall, with some added midseason notes:

Sundays:
7:00 AFV
8:00 Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
9:00 Desperate Housewives
10:00 Brothers & Sisters

Mondays:
8:00 Dancing with the Stars
10:00 Castle

Tuesdays:
8:00 The Shark Tank
9:00 Dancing with the Stars: Results
10:00 The Forgotten

Wednesdays:
8:00 Hank
8:30 The Middle
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 Cougar Town
10:00 Eastwick

Thursdays:
8:00 Flash Forward
9:00 Grey's Anatomy
10:00 Private Practice

Fridays:
8:00 Supernanny
9:00 Ugly Betty
10:00 20/20

And for midseason, The Deep End, Happy Town, and V will all make it on the schedule. Other pilots, like Inside the Box, haven't been picked up yet, but are still under consideration, so shouldn't be counted out. Meanwhile, as reported, Samantha Who? has been cancelled. McPherson said although it's a great show, they are very disappointed in its ratings. Cupid and The Unusuals are also goners. Meanwhile, no decision has been made on Surviving Suburbia yet. They want to see how it performs this summer in its new slot, Wednesdays at 9:30, before making a decision. Scrubs and Better Off Ted will return again in January, airing Tuesdays at 9pm until DWTS returns, so both will have only 9-13 episodes this season. Zach Braff will return for at least 6 episodes of Scrubs, so it won't be a total lost. The Bachelor will return, airing 8-10pm on Mondays in January. Lost will return for its final season, but has not been scheduled yet. I'm guessing it depends on how all their new shows do. If the sitcom block succeeds, it will be great for the network. I love how 8-9:30 is Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton, then the Christopher Lloyd/Steve Levitan pilot, who also created Frasier and Back to You, which Heaton and Grammar both starred in last season. A coincidence?

My thoughts: Overall, a good schedule. I kind of wish Brothers & Sisters would have moved out of Sundays. Ugly Betty on Fridays is a good idea, but paired with Supernanny? Wednesdays will be all new this fall, which could be very risky. They tried it before with Pushing Daisies/Private Practice/Dirty Sexy Money, which didn't work. Flash Forward will most likely succeed, but the other dramas could go either way.

Do you like the schedule? What are your thoughts? Post a comment~!

Law & Order Officially Renewed

Sources are saying that NBC has just renewed "Law & Order" for a 20th season. The episode order is believed to be 16 episodes at this point. It will now officially match Gunsmoke's 20 year record as the longest running TV drama.

NBC will announce their complete plans early tomorrow. Law & Order will most likely serve as a midseason replacement, or as backup in case Leno fails.

Network Upfront Notes CONTINUED

Don't you just love Upfront Season? I do. With the spirit in the air, more information is being uncovered by all the networks.

First up at ABC, some sad news - Samantha Who? has been cancelled. The comedy, starring Christina Applegate, was expected to get a renewal by the network. ABC had problems with it this season, as it was expensive to produce. They were in talks to cut the budget in a possibly format change, but I guess the talks fell through, and ABC just couldn't afford to keep it around. Who? was seen as a strong contender last season, but has since fallen off, and saw a steep ratings decline.

Source: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118003871.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

Lastly, The CW has picked up Vampire Diaries, their only drama pickup so far. Also expect the new Melrose Place to get a pickup at their upfront. It will definitely be airing this fall. Any other pickups or renewals are still unknown at this point.

Source: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/05/cw-picks-up-new-drama-vampire-diaries.html

At NBC, Chuck is now officially renewed, according to multiple sources. But, some bad news as well: budgets have been big-time cut. One of the main starrers is expected to be cut, and regulars will be scaled back to recurring. Also, 2 members of the writing staff are also expected to get the cut. 13 episodes have only been ordered, which may be the max for this show.

Source: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/05/its-official-nb.html?xid=rss-ausiellofiles-It%27s+official%3A+NBC+renews+%27Chuck%27+%28but+there%27s+a+catch%29

Also at NBC, Medium is expected to get a renewal, still, but ongoing talks between NBC and CBS Entertainment are pulling the renewal from going forward. NBC is looking to get cuts on the show, by only ordering 13 episodes. But, CBS is consistent in wanting a full 22 episode season, and they don't want to give NBC any budget cuts. Patricia Arquette is also wanting a full season from the network. If anything, the show may end up on CBS, making it a prime target for Fridays at 9pm. So, stay tuned for this - while the show will be renewed in someway (CBS doesn't want to end it yet), where will it end up?

Source: http://www.tvweek.com/tvmojoe/2009/05/medium-could-be-on-the-move.php

Over at CBS, pilot orders have been announced: The Good Wife, Miami Trauma, Three Rivers, NCIS: Legend, Accidentally on Purpose, and reality show Undercover Boss have all been picked up for next season. Accidentally remains the only sitcom pickup thus far, and is seen as a perfect match for Old Christine next season. Not sure where Undercover Boss will end up - maybe Saturdays? Also, Without a Trace is seen as just about cancelled, which would be a huge mistake in my opinion. 13 million viewers and they're going to cancel it?

My thoughts: What a terrible schedule. FOX is slacking off in the fall, in my opinion, by bringing in SYTYCD. The show does at best 9-10 million viewers in the summer. In the fall, and up against Dancing with the Stars on Tuesdays, it will most likely get killed. The only pairup I like is Mondays. All Dance on Tuesdays is a big, big mistake. Fringe on Thursdays at 9pm could break the show, up against CSI and Grey's Anatomy. And Fridays are just a disaster. Dollhouse shouldn't have been picked up, but it has been, so what do they pair it with? Comedies, one comedy that can't break 4 million viewers. In my opinion, this comedy hour will be the first to go in the fall.

One thing I noticed: Dollhouse is on all season long. Why? FOX ordered 13 episodes. That's all I see it getting. If it can build some traction and revive itself, though, I have no problem with FOX ordering a back 9 to air in midseason. But, if it goes nowhere, I see it finishing its 13 episodes, and being replaced with Kitchen Nightmares in midseason.

So, missing from the schedule are Hell's Kitchen (which will only air in September to finish out its summer season), Kitchen Nightmares, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, and Don't Forget the Lyrics. I can't understand why FOX wouldn't air another Hell's Kitchen in midseason. And I'd be mad if they cancelled the 2 gameshows, as they are always reliable performers. There's an entire season of Kitchen Nightmares ready to be aired as well. I feel bad for their 2 new dramas - both getting stuck in midseason, mainly because of Dance in the fall. What a shame.

What are your comments? I'd love to hear them.

Ratings Report (Shortened) - Week of May 11

Okay, so we have a lot of news to post today. But first, as promised, I'll give you guys the ratings analysis. This does take quite a long time, so to save time and post all the news we have today, I'll just give a brief analysis for the week.

Monday, May 11:
At ABC, Dancing with the Stars started with a below-average 18.55 million, which was still a dominating performance. Castle ended the season with 10 million viewers, which is definitely not bad at all, but could be a lot better. Will ABC keep this show here or move it to a new night? Deal or No Deal bombed with 4.23 million, but Medium stepped up with an average 7 million viewers for 2 hours. Tonight's episode features the return of Angelica Houston, who played a recurring character last season. Medium fans - you won't want to miss it, 9pm tonight! At CBS, the season finale of Big Bang Theory kicked off with 9.76 million viewers, very good. How I Met Your Mother followed with a million less viewers, and .1 less in the demo. Not a good performance for Mother. Men and Rules were down at 9pm a million from the previous week, and CSI: Miami was right on par with the previous week. And FOX aired the season finale of House with 12.74 million, good, and a new 24 at a season low 9.79 million. And, The CW disappointed yet again with their 2.3 million for both teen dramas.

Tuesday, May 12:
American Idol led on FOX with 22.71 million, leading into the season finale of Fringe with 9.28 million. Overall, Fringe hasn't been such a hit this spring, but may be able to pick up some slack in the fall (where it'll be airing Thursdays at 8pm). NCIS and The Mentalist had 16.18 and 16.21 million, and Without a Trace had 13.4 million, one of its best performances in awhile. All were great, as usual. ABC had According to Jim under 4 million as usual at 8pm, with the DWTS Results Show at a below average 14 million, leading into the cancelled Cupid with 5 million. Biggest Loser went out with 11.85 million for 3 hours, one of NBC's best performances in a VERY long time. Boy, did they need that.

Wednesday, May 13:
American Idol led once again, airing at 9pm with 24.67, about a million higher than on Tuesday. Lie to Me ended its season at 8pm with a good 8.46 million, and will be airing Mondays next season. CBS had Rules of Engagement at 8pm, which bombed wih only 6.3 million viewers, lower than Old Christine has done all season. Old Christine followed with an improved 6.5 million viewers and a point higher in the demo. Criminal Minds and CSI:NY both followed with average performances - 14 million and 12 million. ABC had the Lost finale doing a good 9.43 million, and a great 4.4 in the demo. Next season will be its last! Lastly, NBC had Law & Order, with the original series doing close to 8 million at 10pm. 4.31 million people watched the finale of America's Next Top Model, a season high, and tied Rules of Engagement in the demo with a 1.9. Very good.

Thursday, May 14:
Survivor aired its penultimate episode at 8pm with a better 12.18 million viewers and a great demo. Finales followed, with CSI doing 14.81 million, down hugely from last season's finale, and CSI: NY doing 12.77 million, good again, on a special night for its finale. ABC had Ugly Betty doing a declining 6.77 million - this show is crying out "Fridays" for next season. Grey's Anatomy did great for its 2 hour finale with 16.53 million and a 5.9 demo, both EXCELLENT, and the highest ratings since the season premiere. ABC should be thrilled with these ratings. Bones ended with 8.88 million, and Hell's Kitchen had its season finale do 7.37 and a 3.3 demo, both also good. HK will return this July for a new season. NBC bombed in a very, very big way with its night of finales. All shows hit season lows, all 5 of them. To sum it up, Earl and Parks had under 5 million again, while The Office couldn't even hit 7 million, and Southland got just above 4 million. Terrible, just terrible.

Friday, May 15:
Two winners of the night: The Farrah Fawcett special on NBC, and Numb3rs on CBS. Ghost Whisperer was down nearly a million for its season finale, which is quite surprising. It did under 9 million viewers. Flashpoint did an almost identical rating, a little lower in the demo, though. And Numb3rs picked up the slack at 10pm and built a million viewers and .3 in the demo. Very good. Dateline did an okay 5 million at 8pm, and the Farrah special did over 8 million from 9-11pm. Prison Break had its series finales, and was very bad, but better than Dollhouse. Why was this renewed again?

Saturday, May 16:
Not much to say here. Cops was WAY down for some reason, as was AMW. Everything else was repeats. Just a point, though - Harper's Island will return this Saturday at 9pm.

Sunday, May 17:
Some ups and lows for last night. Survivor had its season finale do a good 12.74 million and a 4.2 demo. Survivor still remains one of CBS's best demo performers, with a great finale. The Reunion Show at 10pm did 11.85 million. Desperate Housewives ended its season on, in my opinion, a losing note with 13.9 million and a 4.7 demo from 9-11pm. It could definitey be better, and was down from last season. Grey's Anatomy killed it this week, which is kind of surprising. Extreme Makeover started out 7-9pm with 7.62 million viewers, also a loser for the night. This is definitely showing its age. FOX and NBC were both out of the loop. FOX lost again with their Animation Domination, the only winner being Family Guy. And NBC gave up the night with Dateline and SNL shorts.

Is Medium on the Move . . . to CBS?

Is Medium on the move to CBS?

The NBC-aired drama is currently in negotiations with CBS Television Studios, the producer of the show, for the number of episodes the sixth season should receive. NBC is looking for a production costs discount, and they want a similar deal to what they received for the show this season: a firm 13 episode committment, being allowed to add on to that whenever they feel fit. CBS, though, is looking to snag a full 22 episode season out of the show.

But, will NBC take this, or will they pass? CBS insiders are saying they don't want the show to end this early. They feel if NBC does indeed let Medium go, it could be on the move to their network, a natural slot being Fridays at 9pm out of the similar Ghost Whisperer. But, will CBS really commit to this, and will NBC really let one of their stronger shows go?

Whatever happens will most likely be announced at upfronts this week, if a deal can be reached by then.

Network Upfront Notes

Sorry I've been gone so long! I was out of town since early Friday morning! I'll be doing the weekly ratings report again tomorrow, so look out for that!

For now, though, I'll post some early network upfront notes. I just want to say, though, that I won't go into much detail. I'm looking at all these "leakings" as still just temporary. Are they real? Are they not? Nothing will be for sure, in my opinion, until the actual upfront presentations. And, I hope everyone keeps that in mind.

Continuing, let's start with ABC. As for renewals, they've announced many early: Castle, Samantha Who?, Scrubs, and Better Off Ted. The only real surprise here - Better Off Ted. I wasn't expecting it. It had less than 4 million viewers for the season finale. Can somebody please let me know why this was renewed? As for Scrubs and Samantha?, both could be disasters next season, especially Scrubs, with the format and cast changes. (By the way, Samantha Who? and cancelled In The Motherhood will be airing Fridays at 8pm beginning June 5). Castle - it's done good for its first season. I'd say it deserves another chance.

Announced pickups so far are comedies Modern Family, Cougar Town, The Middle, Awesome Hank, with Romantically Challenged and The Law still close to pickups, perhaps for midseason. On the drama side, it's Flash Forward, Happy Town, The Associates, The Forgotten, Eastwick, and V that all got the pickups. All I have to say - that's a LOT of new shows, with so little room for them to go. So that's the question - where are they all going to go? I am glad to see all the comedy, though. Hopefully (at least) half of these comedies will catch on. I'd especially like to see The Middle and Awesome Hank work, because they sound good, along with Cougar Town.

Meanwhile, The Unusuals, Surviving Suburbia, and Cupid look to be dead. In the poll, The Unusuals and Suburbia remain fan favorites. I'd be sad to see both cancelled. And Cupid - it was expected, right?

Moving onto CBS, although they remain tight, seems like Cold Case will definitely be getting a renewal, with Rules of Engagement in contention for 13 episodes. Without a Trace is losing steam at the network, although it continues to be a ratings winner, and The Unit can at this point be counted out. Meanwhile, Miami Trauma, Three Rivers, The Good Wife, NCIS: Legend, and U.S. Attorney all look good to go, and no word has been made yet on Old Christine and Gary Unmarried. I'd expect Christine to get a pickup, but Gary could go either way.

At FOX, a lot of news. With the premiere of Glee this Tuesday, FOX has been looking to partner it up with a similar show, which they've found in So You Think You Can Dance. The summer reality series will be launching its first fall edition, set to pair up with new drama Glee. Meanwhile, comedies Brothers and Sons of Tuscan will be held for midseason now, where drama Human Target is set for a fall launch. Lie to Me may be going to Mondays with House, and Bones will most likely stick on Thursdays. Dance will air Wednesdays, with Glee, and Thursdays. And, Dollhouse has been renewed for 13 more episodes (No, I'm serious). Kitchen Nightmares is also set to return, and Hell's Kitchen will be spilling its season into the fall.

Not much new at NBC. Medium is pretty much renewed at this point. Law & Order is just about there as well. And Chuck is still in strong contention. Meanwhile, NBC is done with My Name is Earl it seems. FOX doesn't seem to interested, either, so Thursday's episode could have been its last. Their schedule, though, is still up for grabs.

And there you have it, folks. Upfronts begin this week, so we'll be back tomorrow with your ratings, and the first of the upfront information.

Another Renewal by FOX: "Past Life"

FOX has just announced they are set to pickup pilot drama "Past Life.," from Warner Bros.

The show is similar to FOX's new pilot "Human Target," and is about investigators using reincarnation to solve past and present-day mysteries.

FOX's schedule still remains jampacked for next season. Human Target is likely to get a fall slot, along with new comedy "Sons of Tuscan," already picked up series "Glee" set to premiere this Tuesday at 9pm, along with returning series Fringe, Lie to Me, House, and Bones, and alternative series Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, Don't Forget the Lyrics!, and Kitchen Nightmares.

ABC Wants "Samantha Who" to go Multi-Camera

ABC still wants Samantha Who? back next season. But, it's budget is working against it right now. In order to cut costs and keep it on the air, ABC is looking for some big changes - one of these is turning Samantha Who? into a multi-camera sitcom.

ABC is looking to produce the show similar to the way How I Met Your Mother is produced. Instead of using a single camera, they would use 4 cameras, shoot the show on a soundstage, and have a live studio audience over the course of the week come in and view it. The show would still be shot without a studio audience like it is now, but the audience laughter, mixed with a laugh track, would be played in the background.

This comes as no surprise, as it would cut costs at Samantha Who? by nearly $500,000. In fact, this may be the only way ABC can possibly keep it on the air. The show has seen huge ratings decreases this season, both on Mondays and Thursdays. ABC is hoping this will make it easier to watch and blend in with some of ABC's new comedy pilots. They have also said that Scrubs may be taking the same route if it returned for a ninth season.

7 episodes are still in the can from this season, meaning ABC also wouldn't have to order a full season of the show next season.

WOW - Is This NBC's Fall Schedule? (I don't think so)

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/is-this-nbcs-fall-schedule-hmm-chuck-returning-southland-on-friday/

First of all, don't trust anything Nicki Finke has to say. At her site, Deadline Hollywood, she supposedly has gotten her hands on an NBC fall sked. Here's what it says:

MONDAY -- TRAUMA, Heroes, Leno
TUESDAY -- Biggest Loser, Law & Order: SVU, Leno
WEDNESDAY -- Biggest Loser, PARENTHOOD, Leno
THURSDAY -- 30 Rock, P&R, Office, COMMUNITY, Leno
FRIDAY -- Chuck, Southland, Leno
SATURDAY -- Re-runs
SUNDAY -- Football
SUNDAY (January) -- Dateline, Apprentice, MERCY

What do I make of this? At first glance, I don't believe it at all. If this is the seriously schedule, NBC has far more serious problems than I previously thought. Really - the whole schedule is a mess. First, why would NBC stick critically-acclaimed and dark drama Southland Fridays at 9pm, out of the light and ratings-challenged Chuck? Both shows are far from similar, and would only do more damage than good airing on Fridays. They'd both likely take the route of FOX Fridays this midseason and tank. Heroes staying Mondays at 9pm - does NBC want this show to hit 5 million viewers next season? It's getting killed in that slot, so why not move it somewhere else? House is likely to stay Mondays at 8pm on FOX, so why would NBC air another medical drama, Trauma, against it? What sense is that? And splitting up Biggest Loser over 2 nights is not a good idea, at all. Same goes for airing 30 Rock at 8pm? Seriously, what is NBC smoking??

Now, take this as an editorial - these are just my opinions. What do you guys think? Is this for real, or is this just a guess on their part? What do you like on the schedule, and what would you change?

FOX Renews Freshman "Lie to Me" for Season 2

As the early leakings continue, looks like FOX has just renewed freshman drama Lie to Me for a second season. The pickup, for 13 episodes, comes as no surprise, as the drama just scored its best ratings last week in 5 weeks. FOX is hoping the show will blend in nicely with their slate of new and returning shows in the fall.

The news comes with a twist, though: "Shield" creator Shawn Ryan will now become showrunner. He is currently working on CBS' "The Unit" as executive producer/frontrunner, and remains committed to that show, which is still in contention for a renewal. If it does get renewed, Ryan will be heading both shows, something he is familiar with doing.

This comes as good news as FOX is the first to announce their fall lineup at Upfronts on Monday. Only a few bubble shows remain.

FOX Picks Up 2 New Pilots

According to the Hollywood Reporter, FOX has just picked up 2 new pilots - comic book drama Human Target, and single-cam comedy Sons of Tuscan.

Target was the best-received pilot at the net's screening - not necessarily saying it was well-received? Both it and Sons remained early favorites at the network among their short list of pilot contenders.

Human Target is about a freelancer who assumes the identities of people in danger, becoming their "human target." Sons of Tuscan is about a misguided hustler who is hired by 3 brothers to become their father while their real one is away in prison.

Both shows have unique premises, but are they too unique? Will they become to cult-like? Maybe FOX should have learned from NBC's Heroes and stay away from comic book series.

They also go onto say that drama "Past Life" and comedy "Brothers" are still hot contenders, while bubble show "Dollhouse" shouldn't be counted out yet. But let's be honest here - Dollhouse has about the life of a fruit fly left in it.

Desperate Housewives Spin-off??

Desperate Housewives sisters Roberta and Karen McCluskey, played by Lily Tomlin and Kathryn Joosten, are in the works to get their own show, which would mark the first spin-off of ABC drama Desperate Housewives. Both actresses will turn 70 this year.

The show will seemingly take after the likes of The Golden Girls. ABC is interested in getting Housewives creator Marc Cherry on board.

Other details at this time are unknown.

Ratings Report - Week of Monday, May 4

After a week hiatus, we're back with our weekly ratings report!

Monday, May 4
ABC:
8:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS - 20.28 million, 12.6/19 HH, 4.8/13 (18-49), 6.2/14 (25-54)
10:02PM CASTLE - 9.97 million, 6.6/11 HH, 2.8/7 (18-49), 3.4/8 (25-54)

CBS:
8:00PM THE BIG BANG THEORY - 9.25 million, 5.8/9 HH, 3.4/10, 4.1/11
8:30PM HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - 8.89 million, 5.5/8 HH, 3.6/9, 4.2/10
9:00PM TWO AND A HALF MEN - 14.17 million, 8.6/13 HH, 5.0/12, 6.1/14
9:30PM RULES OF ENGAGEMENT - 11.33 million, 6.9/10 HH, 4.1/10, 5.1/11
10:00PM CSI: MIAMI - 13.72 million, 8.7/14 HH, 4.0/11, 5.1/13

NBC:
8:00PM DEAL OR NO DEAL MONDAY 2.7/4, 4.36 million, 1.2/3, 1.5/4
9:00PM MEDIUM - 6.38 million
10:00PM MEDIUM - 8.07 million
(MEDIUM ratings 9-11pm: 7.24 million, 4.8/7 HH, 2.2/6, 2.9/7)

FOX:
8:00PM HOUSE - 12.05 million, 7.1/11 HH, 4.6/13, 5.1/13
9:00PM 24 - 10.11 million, 5.9/9 HH, 3.3/8, 4.1/9

The CW:
8:00PM GOSSIP GIRL - 2.22 million, 1.5/2 HH, 1.1/3, 0.8/2
9:00PM ONE TREE HILL - 2.23 million, 1.6/2 HH, 1.1/3, 0.8/2

My thoughts: Dancing with the Stars dominated again, back with a 2 hour edition. Castle, with a nice lead-in, was way up, but still not up to what it should be. On NBC, the return of Deal or No Deal was a huge bust, while Medium was right on par with Heroes at 9pm, seeing a huge buildup at 10pm to give it one of its best showings of the season. House and 24 remain strong, but are still down year-to-year, both having lost their buzz. On CBS, the comedies were all down as well. Big Bang Theory still had a great performance, but How I Met Your Mother's total viewers is a bit disappointing, although it was good in the demo. Watch for Rules of Engagement airing at 8pm tomorrow night! Will it do better than Old Christine, or will it also be disappointing?

Tuesday, May 5
ABC:
8:00PM SCRUBS -TUES - 3.7 million, 2.5/4 HH, 1.5/4, 1.6/4
8:30PM BETTER OFF TED -TUES - 3.07 million, 2.1/3 HH, 1.2/3, 1.4/3
9:00PM DANCING WITH THE STARS: THE RESULTS - 14.56 million, 9.4/14 HH, 3.2/8, 4.2/10
10:02PM CUPID - 5.14 million, 3.5/6 HH, 1.6/4, 2.0/5

CBS:
8:00PM NCIS - 16.72 million, 10.4/17 HH, 3.4/10, 4.8/12
9:00PM THE MENTALIST - 16.68 million, 10.4/16 HH, 3.6/9, 5.1/12
10:01PM WITHOUT A TRACE - 11.83 million, 7.7/13 HH, 2.6/7, 3.6/9

NBC:
8:00PM BIGGEST LOSER 7 - 9.13 million, 5.6/9 HH, 3.6/10, 4.0/10
10:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU - 9.82 million, 6.9/12 HH, 3.7/10, 4.2/11

FOX:
8:00PM AMERICAN IDOL TUESDAY - 23.41 million, 13.4/21 HH, 8.3/23, 10.1/25
9:03PM FRINGE THRU 10:01PM ET - 9.24 million, 5.6/8 HH, 3.8/10, 4.5/10

The CW:
8:00PM REAPER - 1.89 million, 1.2/2 HH, 0.8/2, 0.8/2
9:00PM 90210 - 1.84 million, 1.3/4 HH, 0.9/2, 0.8/2

My thoughts: NCIS and The Mentalist are definitely a great duo, aren't they? It's unfortunate they'll most likely be broken up next season, because they'll see far greater success airing together. Both demos are very low, though, especially NCIS. For 17 million viewers, a 3.4 is terrible. Fringe's performance was also losing - 23 million viewer lead-in, and it can only generate 9.24 million? Thankfully for fans, it already got a full 22 episode second season - why, I don't know. Biggest Loser is having a great season, one of the few successful shows on NBC. And SVU is definitely down, but it's still generating good numbers. Without a Trace was down quite a bit for some reason, and Scrubs/Better Off Ted did absolutely terrible. Both shows need to just go away - how much more can we really take of Scrubs???

Wednesday, May 6
ABC:
8:00PM SCRUBS FINALE - 5.07 million, 3.5/6 HH, 2.1/6, 2.2/6
9:00PM LOST - 8.7 million, 5.3/8 HH, 4.0/10, 4.4/10
10:02PM THE UNUSUALS - 4.63 million, 3.1/5 HH, 1.6/4, 1.9/5

CBS:
8:00PM OLD CHRISTINE - 6.45 million, 4.4/8 HH, 1.9/6, 2.5/7
8:30PM GARY UNMARRIED - 6.66 million, 4.3/7 HH, 2.0/6, 2.7/7
9:00PM CRIMINAL MINDS - 14.13 million, 8.9/14 HH, 3.3/8, 4.6/10
10:00PM CSI NY - 13.4 million, 8.5/14 HH, 3.3/9, 4.5/11

NBC:
8:00PM LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT NBC - 5.71 million, 3.9/7 HH, 1.3/4, 1.7/5
9:00PM LAW & ORDER: SVU WED-REPEAT - 4.51 million, 3.2/5 HH, 1.1/3, 1.3/3
10:00PM LAW & ORDER - 8.14 million, 5.5/9 HH, 2.3/6, 2.9/7

FOX:
8:00PM LIE TO ME - 8.68 million, 5.4/9 HH, 2.7/8, 3.3/9
9:00PM AMERICAN IDOL WED THRU 10:02PM ET - 23.57 million, 13.7/21 HH, 8.3/20, 10.1/22

The CW:
8:00PM AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL - 3.82 million, 2.6/4 HH, 1.7/5, 1.6/4
9:00PM 90210 WED-REPEAT - 1.09 million, 0.8/1 HH, 0.5/1, 0.4/1

My thoughts: The Scrubs finale saw a bump, but went off with little excitement. Now can we hope this is the final finale? I swear, this feels like the 5th finale of Scrubs we've had to date. Lost is really down, though. It's demo remains very strong, but under 9 million viewers shouldn't be acceptable for this once powerhouse show. And The Unusuals - a good show, but no one's watching. The CBS comedies had a rough week for some reason. Look out for Rules of Engagement and Old Christine airing 8-9pm tomorrow. Meanwhile, both Criminal Minds and CSI:NY were up. Both Law & Order and Lie to Me did very well, both worthy of a renewal. And The CW continues to waste that prime 9pm slot, after their highest rated show. How stupid can you get, really?

Thursday, May 7
ABC:
8:00PM UGLY BETTY - 7.38 million, 4.9/9 HH, 2.1/7, 2.5/7
9:00PM GREY'S ANATOMY - 15.55 million, 10.3/16 HH, 5.4/14, 6.2/15
10:02PM MICHAEL J. FOX: ADVENTURES OF AN INCURABLE OPTIMIST - 10.23 million, 6.8/12 HH, 3.1/9, 4.0/10

CBS:
8:00PM SURVIVOR: TOCANTINS - 11.99 million, 7.0/12 HH, 3.8/12, 4.7/13
9:00PM CSI - 14.91 million, 9.2/15 HH, 3.6/10, 4.9/12
10:01PM CSI-REPEAT - 9.58 million, 6.5/11 HH, 2.4/7, 3.2/9

NBC:
8:00PM MY NAME IS EARL - 4.47 million, 3.0/5 HH, 1.7/6, 1.9/6
8:30PM PARKS AND RECREATION - 4.72 million, 3.0/5 HH, 2.1/6, 2.2/6
9:00PM THE OFFICE - 7.84 million, 4.5/7 HH, 3.9/11, 3.8/9
9:31PM 30 ROCK - 6.13 million, 3.8/6 HH, 2.9/8, 3.1/7
10:01PM SOUTHLAND - 6.61 million, 4.4/8 HH, 2.0/6, 2.6/7

FOX:
8:00PM BONES - 8.76 million, 5.5/10 HH, 2.3/7, 3.0/9
9:00PM HELL'S KITCHEN - 6.5 million, 3.9/6 HH, 2.7/7, 3.2/8

The CW:
8:00PM SMALLVILLE - 3.39 million, 2.1/4 HH, 1.5/5, 1.5/4
9:00PM SUPERNATURAL - 2.79 million, 1.7/3 HH, 1.2/3, 1.1/3

My thoughts: Grey's Anatomy had a VERY good performance on this Thursday. It beat out CSI in total viewers, and hugely in the demo, something it hasn't done all season, so that was great to see. Seems like CSI is really suffering now without William Petersen. Ugly Betty had an okay airing, but its ratings remain down. They should be better for this. I'm thinking either Tuesdays at 8pm for Fridays for this show next season. Survivor was way up in the demo for some reason, and remains really on par with last cycle. My Name is Earl is seeing the end of the road - these ratings are nothing short of horrible. Parks & Rec actually looks good compared to those Earl ratings. And Southland was right on par with last week - not terrible, but could definitely be better. This is just not the hit we previously thought it was. Bones and Hell's Kitchen were both down - why?? Maybe it wasn't such a good idea of FOX to air another season of HK this summer. Season finale is this Thursday!!

Friday, May 8
ABC:
8:00PM ABC FRIDAY MOVIE OF THE WEEK: HAPPY FEET - 5.01 million, 3.1/6 HH, 1.3/5, 1.6/5
10:00PM 20/20 - 5.02 million, 3.3/6 HH, 1.2/4, 1.6/5

CBS:
8:00PM GHOST WHISPERER - 9.5 million, 6.0/12 HH, 2.2/8, 3.1/10
9:02PM FLASHPOINT - 8.62 million, 5.5/10 HH, 1.8/6, 2.5/8
10:00PM NUMB3RS - 9.57 million, 6.0/11 HH, 2.0/7, 2.9/9

NBC:
8:00PM HOWDIE DO IT -REPEAT - 2.67 million, 1.8/4 HH, 0.8/3, 1.0/3
8:29PM HOWDIE DO IT -REPEAT - 2.31 million, 1.5/3 HH, 0.8/3, 0.9/3
9:00PM DATELINE - 5.23 million, 3.7/7 HH, 1.4/5, 1.9/6

FOX:
8:00PM PRISON BREAK - 2.99 million, 1.9/4 HH, 0.9/3, 1.0/4
9:01PM DOLLHOUSE - 2.7 million, 1.7/3 HH, 1.0/4, 1.1/3

The CW:
8:00PM EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS - 1.67 million, 1.0/2 HH, 0.7/3, 0.7/2
8:30PM THE GAME - 1.82 million, 1.1/2 HH, 0.8/3, 0.8/2
9:00PM AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL FRI-REPEAT - 1.14 million, 0.8/2 HH, 0.5/2, 0.5/2

My thoughts: Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs remain down in these spring months. Flashpoint remains weak at 9pm. If CBS is still looking for that stable 9pm show, it isn't Flashpoint. My suggestion: put Cold Case or Without a Trace in the slot. Both are lower demo shows and would fit in nicely with the other 2 shows. Flashpoint can remain a midseason option, or even go to Saturdays. It's cheap, so I think it would be worth the try on Saturdays. I still can't get over how low Prison Break and Dollhouse are. Wow. Hopefully FOX decides to stick with 5th Grader and Lyrics on Fridays all next season. I'm hoping to see scripted shows on ABC Fridays next season, like I said before, Ugly Betty and perhaps something else, to boost 20/20 a bit. And NBC: Law & Order with perhaps a new show or Medium would be a good option. Don't expect Chris or The Game to be back on The CW next season.

Saturday, May 9
ABC:
8:00 NBC PLAYOFFS - 4.5 million, 1.7/6 (18-49)

CBS:
8:00 CSI-REPEAT - 4.45 million, 0.7/3 (18-49)
9:00 HARPER'S ISLAND - 4.64 million, 1.1/4 (18-49)
10:00 48 HOURS MYSTERY - 6.4 million, 1.5/5 (18-49)

NBC:
8:00 LAW & ORDER: SVU-REPEAT - 3.45 million, 0.7/3 (18-49)
9:00 SOUTHLAND-REPEAT - 3.75 million, 0.6/2 (18-49)
10:00 LAW & ORDER-REPEAT - 5.18 million, 1.0/3 (18-49)

FOX:
8:00 NASCAR: DARLINGTON - 6.48 million, 2.0/7 (18-49)

My thoughts: Another sad Saturday night. Harper's Island did okay, right on par to the point with last week. I guess the viewers that followed over to Saturdays have stuck around. Now will this 2 week hiatus hurt the show or help the show? It could build up suspense, but in 2 weeks, viewers might not care anymore. Overall, a nice build for CBS from 8-11pm. FOX did great with Nascar, and the Southland repeat was more than half of what the regular airing got on Thursday. Perhaps viewers are watching it here instead?

Sunday, May 10
ABC:
7:00 AFHV - 7.00 million, 2.0/7 (18-49)
8:00 EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION - 8.19 million, 2.6/7 (18-49)
9:00 DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - 12.13 million, 4.1/11 (18-49)
10:00 BROTHERS & SISTERS - 8.84 million, 3.1/8 (18-49)

CBS:
7:00 60 MINUTES - 9.97 million, 1.5/5 (18-49)
8:00 THE AMAZING RACE - 10.43 million, 3.0/9 (18-49)
9:00 COLD CASE - 11.78 million, 2.7/7 (18-49)
10:00 THE UNIT - 9.66 million, 2.4/7 (18-49)

NBC:
7:00 DATELINE - 4.03 million, 0.9/3 (18-49)
8:00 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE-FINALE - 6.45 million, 2.1/7 (18-49)
8:30 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - 7.06 million, 2.4/7 (18-49)
9:00 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - 8.57 million, 3.0/8
9:30 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - 9.79 million, 3.6/9
10:00 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - 10.42 million, 3.8/10
10:30 CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - 10.07 million, 3.6/10

FOX:
7:00 SIT DOWN SHUT UP - 1.59 million, 0.7/3
7:30 AMERICAN DAD-REPEAT - 2.36 million, 1.1/4
8:00 THE SIMPSONS - 5.16 million, 2.5/8
8:30 KING OF THE HILL - 4.1 million, 1.8/5
9:00 FAMILY GUY - 6.47 million, 3.2/9
9:30 AMERICAN DAD - 4.95 million, 2.5/6

The CW:
6:30 JERICHO-REPEAT - 0.72 million, 0.3/1
7:30 THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - 1.00 million, 0.3/1

My thoughts: What a finale on Celebrity Apprentice? Congratulations to Joan Rivers, who rightfully deserved it over poker "trash" Annie Duke. Keep in mind - this was Mother's Day, and ratings were down approximately 20% on average as recorded by Nielsen. With this said, Celebrity Apprenitce is the only NBC show of the week to reach 10 million viewers - overall, it averaged 8.73 million, right on par with the season average. This could have been the best Apprentice season since season 1! Next season is expected to begin next March. Desperate Housewives hit a series low - did CA do some damage, or are people getting sick of seeing their favorite housewives 5 years in the future? Brothers & Sisters disappointed for its season finale - expect this to move out of Sundays next fall. The Unit beat it in total viewers - congrats to The Unit. Amazing Race ended its season on a high, as did Cold Case, which deserves a renewal. And FOX - this animation domination needs to end. The Simpsons - was that a series low? If it wasn't, it was close to it.
