ABC Wants Old Christine . . . Again?

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/04/exclusive-abc-h.html

"ABC is still carrying a torch for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

For the second year in a row, the Alphabet net is looking to acquire The New Adventures of Old Christine should CBS opt to cancel it. ABC made a similar bid for the sitcom last spring, but CBS ultimately renewed it.

Although reps for ABC and Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story, a source close to Old Christine says WB execs are engaged in active discussions with ABC about picking up the four-year-old comedy, which once again finds itself on the dreaded bubble at CBS.
Over the weekend, Louis-Dreyfus told EW that she was feeling "confident" about a CBS renewal, but she didn't rule out a network hop. "I don't know," she said. "I want a pick-up, period."

Old Christine is one of my favorite sitcoms on the air. I really would like to see ABC try harder for this show, because I think it belongs on their network. If it can get the same 7-8 million on ABC, they'd consider it a success. Having a veteran show like Old Christine around could also help boost ABC's new comedy block for next season, if they were to have one. And like I've said before, it would be a great counterpart to Surviving Suburbia next season. Either way, we definitely have not seen the end of Old Christine after this season.

  1. I'm not sure how much "harder" ABC can try on "Old Christine". They can only act once CBS passes on it, so their hands are kind of tied.

However, a possible pairing of "Old Christine" and Bob Saget's new "Surviving Suburbia" could definitely be an attractive pairing for the network.

  2. Yes, I'm confident that Survivin Suburbia will be back next season - it's demo isn't the highest, but it is staying steady with a little under 10 million. SS and Old Christine would be a perfect pairup (especially for fans who love both shows). I've always thought that Old Christine would be much better suited for ABC. If CBS really doesn't want it, why not just let it go?

  3. I'm wondering if ABC really DOESNT want it. Maybe they are pressuring CBS to pick it up, because they know it isnt all that strong (a 2.0 demo). Perhaps ABC is trying to program something against it. Just a differnt thought! :) Although, I'm sure ABC is DYING for it! :D

  4. Haha - that's a great thought. But, if CBS does renew, it really is anyone's idea as to where they'd schedule it - would it go back to Mondays, stay on Wednesdays, or air somewhere completely different?

I think they do want it - someone at ABC obviously loves the show, and is just dying to watch it, because everyone knows network execs only watch their own shows ;) (well, except for Ben Silverman-lol)
