ABC Wants "Samantha Who" to go Multi-Camera

ABC still wants Samantha Who? back next season. But, it's budget is working against it right now. In order to cut costs and keep it on the air, ABC is looking for some big changes - one of these is turning Samantha Who? into a multi-camera sitcom.

ABC is looking to produce the show similar to the way How I Met Your Mother is produced. Instead of using a single camera, they would use 4 cameras, shoot the show on a soundstage, and have a live studio audience over the course of the week come in and view it. The show would still be shot without a studio audience like it is now, but the audience laughter, mixed with a laugh track, would be played in the background.

This comes as no surprise, as it would cut costs at Samantha Who? by nearly $500,000. In fact, this may be the only way ABC can possibly keep it on the air. The show has seen huge ratings decreases this season, both on Mondays and Thursdays. ABC is hoping this will make it easier to watch and blend in with some of ABC's new comedy pilots. They have also said that Scrubs may be taking the same route if it returned for a ninth season.

7 episodes are still in the can from this season, meaning ABC also wouldn't have to order a full season of the show next season.
