FOX Renews Freshman "Fringe" for Second Season

Since this is all over the web, I won't post a source for this. But, FOX has given an early renewal off 22 episodes for the freshman semi-hit Fringe.

It was on the bubble for FOX, but FOX seems to be in love with it, so this is no surprise. While I wouldn't consider it a hit, it's doing modestly for FOX. In the fall, it was paired with House, and hit a high of 12 million viewers and a low of just under 8 million viewers, but it really didn't level off anywhere inbetween. With a long hiatus, it returned airing after Idol on Tuesdays at 9pm, and has since been doing around 10 million viewers and a 4.0 demo. But, airing with a 24 million lead-in, that really doesn't sound too good.

The show is the number 1 new show in the demo, with The Mentalist being the number 1 new show in total viewers. And by ordering a full season, FOX obviously has confidence in this show. Other show awaiting renewal at FOX: freshman Lie to Me, which is likely to be renewed. Glee, a new FOX drama, will premiere its pilot after the Idol Tuesday finale, while airing the rest of its season beginning next fall. Osbournes: Reloaded aired one low-rated episode, but there are still 4 or 5 more in the can which are not currently scheduled. And expect busts like Sit Down Shut Up and Hole in the Wall to be gone. The Cleveland Show, a spinoff of Family Guy, has gotten 2 13-episode seasons already from FOX without even premiering, so expect that in the fall. King of the Hill will be ending at the start of next season, while Kitchen Nightmares has already gotten renewed, and 5th Grader and Lyrics will more than likely get another season.

  1. I hope it does well, but I have stopped watching...too weird for me!

  2. It's a serialized show, isn't it? I also heard that Fringe can be very confusing at times, but with all their subliminal things, like the frog, it's fun for viewers.

I haven't see it, actually. I'm just not a huge fan of FOX dramas, and I opted not to watch this one. FOX seems to like it, though, so getting a full 22 episode second season is a big vote of confidence.
