WOW - Is This NBC's Fall Schedule? (I don't think so)

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/is-this-nbcs-fall-schedule-hmm-chuck-returning-southland-on-friday/

First of all, don't trust anything Nicki Finke has to say. At her site, Deadline Hollywood, she supposedly has gotten her hands on an NBC fall sked. Here's what it says:

MONDAY -- TRAUMA, Heroes, Leno
TUESDAY -- Biggest Loser, Law & Order: SVU, Leno
WEDNESDAY -- Biggest Loser, PARENTHOOD, Leno
THURSDAY -- 30 Rock, P&R, Office, COMMUNITY, Leno
FRIDAY -- Chuck, Southland, Leno
SATURDAY -- Re-runs
SUNDAY -- Football
SUNDAY (January) -- Dateline, Apprentice, MERCY

What do I make of this? At first glance, I don't believe it at all. If this is the seriously schedule, NBC has far more serious problems than I previously thought. Really - the whole schedule is a mess. First, why would NBC stick critically-acclaimed and dark drama Southland Fridays at 9pm, out of the light and ratings-challenged Chuck? Both shows are far from similar, and would only do more damage than good airing on Fridays. They'd both likely take the route of FOX Fridays this midseason and tank. Heroes staying Mondays at 9pm - does NBC want this show to hit 5 million viewers next season? It's getting killed in that slot, so why not move it somewhere else? House is likely to stay Mondays at 8pm on FOX, so why would NBC air another medical drama, Trauma, against it? What sense is that? And splitting up Biggest Loser over 2 nights is not a good idea, at all. Same goes for airing 30 Rock at 8pm? Seriously, what is NBC smoking??

Now, take this as an editorial - these are just my opinions. What do you guys think? Is this for real, or is this just a guess on their part? What do you like on the schedule, and what would you change?

  1. Only time will tell but the sad thing is, there are only 2 shows that I care for in this whole lineup (Chuck & Southland). It's also missing the GREAT Friday Night Lights which has been given 2 more seasons.

  2. Who knows. Nicki is right about 80% of the time which is a lot better then a lot of the other websites. I don't think anyone knows for sure especially when it comes to NBC. They are run by morons. Why else would they put Jay Leno on at 10:00 for five nights a week. I'd hate to see Chuck air on Friday. That's the only NBC show I really even care about.

  3. MO - you said you only watch Chuck and Southland, so what do you think of the pairing of those 2 on Fridays?

BTW, Friday Night Lights will most likely return Fridays at 9pm in January for its 13-episode season 3.

NBC is run by morons, though. Silverman has no idea how to run a network. Their ratings are getting worse, and they are failing to find a hit show in all these new pilots. Some of these scheduling decisions are just idiotic, in my opinion.

  4. Re: Chuck and Southland being moved to Fridays aka “death slots”, what do they have in common? They are produced by WB.

What do all the new shows have that have received “cushier” slots have in common? NBC Universal is a producing partner.

Face it, this is once again Silverman attempting to cut costs and maximize profits regardless of the long term consequences. If you look at the schedule as a whole NBC Universal is a producer for at least 80% of it. Give it a couple of years and I am sure it will be 100%.

  5. I completely agree with this. It also doesn't help that Silverman and Zucker have no idea how to run a network. Brandon Tartikoff must be rolling over in his grave right now.
