ABC Guarantees "Old Christine" Will Get a 5th Season

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i9813ed99c5e2b4f32e47038304e84be5

As a huge fan of Old Christine, I'm happy to report that ABC has inked a deal with Warner Bros. to immediately pick up the show for a full 22 episode season, if CBS decides to cancel it after this season.

This is very risky of ABC, who for the 2nd year now, is dying to get Christine on the schedule. ABC Pres Steve McPherson is on the record of saying he's a huge fan of the show.

It is still likely, though, that CBS will renew the show. The only downfall for fans - while ABC is putting in a bid for 22 episodes in the act of CBS cancelling it, CBS will only likely give it a 13 episode season if they do renew it. Maybe Old Christine would be better off moving to ABC?

In any sense, show producers are looking to sell the show to syndication. And seeing how well shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men have done in syndication, chances are it would become a big hit. Nonetheless, this pretty much assures Old Christine will be around for another year. With this, we can now consider the show to be off the bubble.

Any fans of the show around here? What do you think, should it stay on CBS, or move to ABC? And what do you think of this news?

  1. I'm glad that is coming back, even though I don't watch it that often, I like to see traditional sitcoms do well

Also, I absolutely LOVE this blog, I've been checking it everyday for new info!

  2. Awww, thanks a lot-lol. I'm trying to post the latest info as often as I come.

BTW, if anyone's looking, all ratings have been delayed by Nielson since Saturday. So, whenever final ratings for Sunday come in, I'll get the ratings for last week. If they don't come in by tonight, I'll just most likely post Monday-Saturday by tonight.

Whether you're a fan of Old Christine or not, you have to love seeing multi-cam sitcoms do well. I for one can't stand those single-cam comedies NBC falls over for. Multi-cams are more traditional, and they're much funnier. Old Christine is exactly this, and it's still getting good ratings. Guaranteed it will be getting renewed, one way or another.

  3. Julie, can you tell me something( and by the way you are doing a grand job).
Is a pilot selected on just one script alone or is the network presented with 5-10 scripts and different outlines or scenarios of how the show could go?

I can't imagine any show being sent to pilot on a single script.

  4. I believe the show creators will send their pilot script to a network, and if the like it, they'll ask for a either a short version of it, or a full pilot presentation. From their, the script will be revised with network imput, and if they like the end product, they'll order it to series.

So, I believe it's just one script to begin with. And honestly, this may be a reason why so many new shows are so bad ;)

  7. "They have Gary Unmarried, Cold Case, Without a Trace, and The Unit as could go either way, all of which I agree."

So, you're saying that your 'source' doesn't know what he is saying? Was that CBS executive just toying with us when he reported to your source that CBS was canceling only two shows and that all the other would be saved? Any more info from him?
